My Grandmother recently passed away and she left my Grandfather's WWII items to me. I have a lot of pictures, a few medals, some documentation, and two gun bring backs (which I already possessed). I plan to document his service as best I can with the paperwork and pictures and share that here as a tribute to both of them. Does anyone here have knowledge of WWII Army separation papers? I have a copy of his and there are some things there I'd like to get some more info on. Also, I know he was awarded a medal (I have it, along with a copy of the general orders) but it doesn't appear on the separation papers. Any ideas why that would be the case?

More details and pics would be very helpful. The medal may have been awarded after he got out or he may have just not been all that concerned with getting his paperwork corrected to reflect it. ETA: If that medal's a Bronze Star, it may be one that was authorized in 1947, when BSM were awarded to everyone who'd recieved a CIB, CMB, or Purple Heart. |

I looked at his discharge date and the date on the orders that awarded him the medal and it was in fact awarded to him after his discharge. The award year was 1946 though so it was for a specific incident. After I get everything together I'll scan the documents and photograph the other stuff. |
