I know I threatened to move to the UK over a year ago when I found out I would be.  Well the time has come to follow through on my threat promise.  I'll be flying into your fine land in a little more than a weeks time.  I have a couple of fresh questions for you guys.  What kind of internet access is commonly available in England? DSL, ISDN, Cablemodem?  You should have guessed that as an arfcommer it's high on my list of priorities when selecting a place to live.    Is there anything large/bulky you guys might need that is ridiculous to pay shipping for from the states (no, no cases of M-16s or ammo)?  My household goods are getting picked up this week and I have plenty of spare weight allowance.

Hi again,

Most of the UK is Broadband equipped with DSL speeds ranging from 512Kbps to 8Meg.... I generally depends on where you are in the UK... Have a look here to see what is available.... Best advice would be to get info from people who are already using a service and see if it does what you need.....

As for heavy items..... We need a new backstop at the range, so if you want to bring Rosey O'Donnell ...... Heh

Good luck with the move....

I'll be in East Anglia, Suffolk, I think.  Somewhere around Bury St. Edmunds and Cambridge, or that neighborhood.   Glad to hear DSL is common and available, I assume I need to pay for a land line phone to have the service, the same way we do?

Yep!  Unless you go for a Cable provider and ditch the BT line all together..... Like I mentioned though, I would check out service with your neighbours first.... Certain providers impose limits and fair usage policies..... There are some bargains out there though...

Of course, though I plan to live in as small a village I can find with a good pub and high speed internet access.  Oh, and a large garage, I am a hobbyist grease monkey/motorhead and need my wrenching space.

Internet access/bandwidth availability is better in England than the US - don't sweat it.
