Look what someone did to a Johnson rifle, WWII issue. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a22/danc46/Johnson3006.jpg It wasn't uncommon to "sporterize" many military arms in the 1950s. The modifications above made a $6000 rifle into a $500 rifle. ![]() it probably wasn't a $6000 dollar rifle when it got bubba'd; probably wasn't even a $500 dollar rifle when it was done. I'd still take it |

I'd still take it I had my son make an offer on it last night. We'll see if we get it or not. Brother L, you have some of the same attitudes I do. You like the rifles for what they can do, now what they look like. I have a 03 Springfield that was sporterized back in the 50s. My dad hunted with it for years and killed a lot of deer with it. I paid $100 for it with a scope back in 1976. Back then a Rem 700 was $175, a Win 70 about $200. So the $65 Springfields and $30 Mauser 98s got bubba'd a lot back then. |

Are you certain it is a USMC Johnson and not a Johnson sporter? You do know Johnson Automatics made a few before the war stopped production and yes I am saying this to be devils advocate. IIRC the Johnson sporters are rarer than the military model. Look at the front of the barrel. You can tell the front sight was removed. |
