May possibly be getting a couple handguns and the reason I say may is because I am unsure if they were ever registered. Little back story, they belonged to someone who is no longer alive and are in the possesion of that persons father.  The person who is getting rid of the stuff for the persons dad says they are all legal but not sure if they can produce the permits for them.  Is there a way to contact the county they should be registered in and have them run the serial number to see if they were legaly registered?  I know this all sounds a little fishy but it's not just trying to ask a couple questions without going into details of a sad situatuion.  Also would the father be the one to sign off on the purchase permit since the pervious owner is no longer alive?

It shouldn't matter.  For the permits, you must be at least 21 years old and present valid MI ID and the number of pistols you think you might purchase.  The father will be the seller, as long as both he and the handguns are in the state.  You will take your three forms in and the LE agent will run the serial numbers.  If they aren't reported as stolen, you are good.
