My heat pump has failed, and has been out all winter. It has "emergency heat" (which is electric heat and expensive as heck) but won't heat or cool through the heat pump. It seemed to go out when we have a power surge: the lights go out for anywhere from a few seconds to over 5 hours. At the last point the lights went way high and then failed. We had a surge protector installed for the heat pump. We've had a local guy out who seemed to be pretty good but the last time he visited 3-4 times, and now he has simply ghosted us. He kept saying it was a circuit board gone bad but now he won't even speak to us; he hides behind his answering machine. Another problem is that people want a lot of money just to look at the installation with no guarantee that they can fix it. The installation is 4 years old in March. It was installed by someone sent by Idaho Weatherization; it was free to me but dammit it should still work! Should still be under warranty, too. We complained to Weatherization and they told us to stop calling. What other recourse do we have? I note that a major problem in Idaho is the lack of oversight. He said that it was too small for the unit, and stated that it looked like it'd been salvaged from a smaller unit. |

We got some good news! My wife asked a chat bot about it, and it suggested that we ask our homeowner insurance. They sent an adjustor out, who contacted our plumber, who responded "It's so messed up by the surges that it must be replaced!!" I don't know how much must be replaced but it's looking hopeful. |

Well, it's 8 months later and our HVAC guy finally got our electric heat installed today! Seems that in addition to running a thriving business, he's also got a large family... some of them have needed his support at times (a daughter had a child, his mother is hospitalized) and he had to take time off for that. Can't fault the guy for that. I thank God I have had wood heat available! |
