| Hi Im in the Columbia area lately, and recently had a friend offer to take me out to his property to hunt this weekend. The problem is I am at the age which I need to take a hunters safety class to obtain a license, and I have not taken such a class in missouri, since i moved here two years ago. I have taken a class In Washington state but do not have the certificate that proves I passed the class. Is there any way to help me get past the requirement of the class? Or a quick class to take? |

Wow, I did not know that anyone born on or after January 1, 1967 must pass a course to purchase a firearms hunting permit. Hunter Education Link I could not find out the cost of the course. I would like to take it. I am exempt though because I am older than dirt.

Yep I believe all states have a hunters safety requirement. There is a grandfather clause in most states for people born before a certain date. It is also not required in some states for people under a certain age, provided they are with someone who possesses a card, regardless of grandfathered status. Some states also exempt for indians who hold a "heritage card". Most states also honour other states hunters safety cards, example my Kansas card is valid in Missouri, and I never have to take the Missouri class/test unless I want to. None of the info in the class/test is really state specific. It's mainly general firearms/bow safety, hunting ethics, minimal first aid, and federal regulations(migratory bird laws). Some states have a specific requirement for firearms and bow familiarization. In addition to hunters safety certification, there is also a fur harvesters certification requirement if you want to harvest/trap animals classified as furbearers. I don't have this cert so I don't know much about it, but it pretty much is the trapping equivalent of hunters safety, focus on trap safety and ethics, etc... |
