Just don't hit Gatlinburg in mid July.  It's going to be crowded Traffic will suck seven days a week. Just know that's just how it is and everyone else is suffering the same. Dollywood is definitely worth the trip. There's a Bud's gunshop, Smokey Mountain Knife Works, and a Lodge Cast Iron Store nearby that are worth the stop in. |
I think one of the major problems with America today is not enough families sit down to a big plate of squirrels momma just fried up.

Attached File We are thinking of Dollywood either this weekend or next. Gonna do a quick 4 day trip, one day there and trying to determine other destination. Anything local to Dollywood that is a whole day or would Kentucky Mammoth caves be the best second day pick. Can't wait to hit buds |

Granted they’re not all going to Dollywood, but a lot are not to mention the traffic from exit 407 on in. |

Late to this thread (don't normally check TN HTF), but yes June, July and August at Dollywood would be HOT. Visited last month, we did luck out at low 80s the one day at Dollywood (though rainy), and mid-80s the next day when we did Splash Country (waterpark). Waterpark is extra cost, though. On a previous June trip we had mid-90s at the park - however Dollywood gives out FREE ICE WATER at food locations. Also highly recommend a souvenir cup for free refills (price varies depending on if you need for the day or all season). As for other things to do... also on our trip last month the wife and I did the ziplines at Anakeesta, the mountain coasters are good too (though I'm not a fan of the single-rail one, and upon checking their website their newer two-rail coaster, Hellbender, is down for maintenance). I would NOT recommend the Astra Lumina experience.... kids might like it but I thought it was dumb, and trying to walk around people in the dark uggghhh... This is a pic from the top of the Observation Tower:  Depending on your budget, MegaZip just opened as America's longest zip line, and there is also a UTV/bike rental. Unfortunately I did not get a chance to do it this trip. Last year we rented ATVs in the Smokies, that was fun. I keep wanting to do Zorbing but no one else wants to roll with me.  Basically we have family in the area, so when we visit a couple times a year I try to find something new.. Dollywood is great - our first trip we made knives out of railroad ties. (don't know if they still do it but the forge is still there)  Picture from fall, couple of years ago (2nd one is from their Birds of Prey show):   Another touristy thing to do in Pigeon Forge is the Alcatraz East Coast Crime Museum - can burn 2+ hours there in a self-guided tour.   (I never knew that wasn't actually OJ's Bronco... huh.) There's also The Island but unless you have kids there isn't much to do there, still worth a trip (free parking, free entry to walk).. the Wheel is neat to do as well.
