I'm trying to figure what the average health insurance premium cost in the local area. Three years ago, my employer paid all of the premium and I had a $300 deductable on a 20/80 plan. Year before last I started paying in $23/month for the $300 and 20/80. This year the premiums went to $213/month with a $1000 deductable per person with 20/80. Tentatively for next year, the premiums will go up(just insuring myself) to $105/week, $3000 deductable per person(each and every person) with a 40/60 plan. We also expect a 3% pay reduction with retirement contributions rising from 6.5% of our gross pay to 9.5% rising to 15% in steps over the next 2 years...and this is after we found out that our employer has not and will not pay the promised matching funds into the retirement fund for the last 3 years. Is this typical of benefits with all the local employers? mm |

I pay about $240 a month for 5 people, including dental and vision. In network is covered 90%, out of network 70%. Company matches payroll deduction up to 3%( you can contribute 6%) Full service brokerage firm handling the money, and you can select between 7 or 8 funds. Raises aren't great at 3% a year, but generous vacation and comp. time. tvone |

Too fucking much. Insurance in TX altogether is tooooooo fucking much. Here's an example. I am in early thirties. No pre existing. Do not smoke. Classified as good health. I worked for a bank in CA. with roughly 2500 employees. Going thru Blue Cross/Blue Shield. My portion for this HMO was $25 a month. Every place I worked at in CA its been roughly $25 - 50 Monthly. Got here to TX with a small firm with another HMO. Since it was a smaller firm it was understandable that I paid more. Plus the firm was fairly new and have had some serious claims against its health insurance. I paid $85 monthly. That's just health. So I thought maybe I should just get my own health insurance. Well I couldn't find one for less than $125 month. I have done this in CA as well when I was an independent contractor. I was paying around $75-80 a month and that included dental. Finally I got with a big bank here in TX. More than 10000 employees. Blue Cross was the insurance company I chose again. I figure. Larger pool of risk. Larger company, they will pay more of the premium. I was paying $80 month just for health. Let's not talk about car insurance. When I moved from CA to TX. For the same car. My insurance jumped from $85 a month to $135 a month and kept rising to $175. For same full coverage I had in CA with the same company. If I lived in Dallas county, there was another 10%. My renter insurance went up as well. I was paying $75 a year in CA. Move to TX and BAM!!! $95 a year. LOWER COST OF LIVING INDEED!!! |
