I have Comcast as my Internet and cable provider but was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the following: I noticed that Comcast has now put 2 Spanish channels on my channels. I’m not paying any extra for them but why is everything turning into Spanish? Why are they just accommodating one language? If I wished to have a Italian channel I’d have to pay extra for it, if I wanted an Asian speaking channel I’d have to pay extra for it etc. Why are they accommodating one race? I contacted Comcast this afternoon and the person didn’t know what to say, I then asked for a Manager and of course he said he wasn’t in the office and that I would receive a call back shortly. Is Comcast discriminating against white people or the English language? Could anything be done about this? Thanks….. |

Start to learn Spanish this country has no backbone anymore and being political correct for everything. You have to attend your local town meetings and see when the next contract is up. They usually have a 10 year deal with the cable providers this is where they layout the channels etc... be proactive and get involved. 99% of people don't attend the meetings at local government and than complain when crap gets rammed rod through. |

Why are they just accommodating one language?
Actually, it sounds like they are accommodating more than one language. Btw, I also get shows in Korean and Japanese at certain times of the day. Why are they accommodating one race?
Spanish is a language, not a race. It's spoken by lots of people, including whites. Could anything be done about this?
Yeah, you could learn Spanish so you aren't missing out on some shitty soap operas. Or you could, I don't know, not get upset when you come across languages you don't understand in the media? |

Put your businessman's hat on.
Nearly 4% of the population speak Spanish only, and 6% of the bilingual population prefer to think and communicate in Spanish as a primary language. That is nearly 10% of the population. As a businessman, would you pass up the opportunity to sell advertising to 10% of the population? |

There are only 3 races: Caucasian, Mongoloid, and Negroid, and your race has nothing to do with the language you speak.
Stereotypically, however, Spanish speakers are typically Caucasian. Hispanic speakers (Latinos) are typically intermingled Mongoloid and Caucasian. And Caribbean people are typicaly intermingled Negroid and Caucasian. Someone please tell me what the heck any of this has to do with Comcast providing cable service to a target Spanish-speaking market. If it bothers you, just don’t watch the channel. |
Meh... this thread has some racist undertones.
I have Verizon. There are more than just the Spanish/Hispanic channels that I have no interest in seeing (most times). There are WAY too many sports channels I would like removed from my tuner, and some of the "paid for advertising" channels. While we are at it what about the decibel increase ANY advertisement has... you HAVE to have the remote in your hand to lower the volume so you don't go deaf. I think if you want to raise a discrimination issue, there is this - why aren't other than English speaking channels available in English translation, perhaps a SAP equivalent? I believe it would allow the viewer to gain a sense of culture and humor of said Ethnics. Every time I see SAP and not the English equivalent on a Spanish/Hispanic, Italian, Korean, Chinese, etc. channel, it pisses me off. I can't have an appreciation of something I can't understand. For those who would say, why don't you learn said language, I would say, "Why doesn't the non-English populace do same?" BTW - we use GOYA food products, and Chinese, Mexican, Italian, Thai. There is a market among the English speakers and it can grow. |

no one is forcing any of you to buy services from these companies. This is true. I don't think this is about services. It is a smattering of politics, political correctness, lack of choices vs. costs, individual choices and of course the old "for the greater good." Why can't one pick the non-premium channels select-able without reinventing the wheel? Personally I've tried to use "favorites" and "parental controls" and they have other annoying effects on channel surfing. Done - I've already wasted too "much" in this thread. The solution is very simply and has been mentioned here before many times...if you do not like something do not go for it, if you do not like fish, then do not eat fish, but do not ask for the fish market to close only because you do not like it. If you do not like Spanish (or any other languages channel) skip it, program your remote to block this channel, just like you would do with some of those infomercial channels, Simple solution.
As a side note... I do speak Spanish, it is my mother language and I would not watch some of those Spanish speaking channels as they are pure garbage, Latinos and Spanish in general are much better than the way they (we) are portrayed there, not all Spanish speaking people listen to Salsa only or eat just beans. So please do some research about other cultures and you will see there is something very interesting to learn about them. I love to watch the German, Japanese and Chinese channels even when I do not understand it at all, most of the girls are very cute and it helps to polish your ear if you are learning another language. i don't even know where to begin on what you wrote above; fortunately others have covered it nicely above, with props to Nasal_Avenger for hitting all the key points and interjecting some much needed humor as well. but perhaps the following groundbreaking concept will help you understand things a tiny bit better: comcast has other customers besides you. ar-jedi ps: Quoted:
I contacted Comcast this afternoon and the person didn’t know what to say not surprised. you could have gotten Albert Einstein, Nelson Mandela, and Jack Nicholson on the line and they still wouldn't know what to say to you. |

The first channel I block when setting up a new TV is the Golf channel. After that I block every other channel I will never watch: home shopping, BET, CNBC MSNBC, etc. The last channels I block are the spanish channels. I may not understand what they are saying, but they have some smoking hot chicks on there Don't you guys watch the Simpsons (Teleboobies episode)? http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110912040357/simpsons/images/9/99/Xoxo.jpg LionDog, if the above cartoon is inappropriate for the NJ hometown forum please feel free to delete Edited to add: Regardless of all of this BS Comcast sucks! Every time it rains our cable and internet goes out. I don't see any nipple so we are OK. My wife knows when she hears too much Latino language coming from the TV, there's got to be some thong wearing, big and almost bare breast hottie on the screen. But for me there is only my wife. She IS a hottie too, and NO, no pix to be posted. |
