I am in the process of building my first ar 15.  I have a callapsable stock that got from someone is there any way to make it NYS legal?  For example can I permantly pin it?  Or do I need to bite the bullet and buy a fixed stock?

There's no "approved" way to pin a stock.  However, there's nothing illegal about owning a collapsing stock in NY.  It just can't collapse while installed on a pistol-gripped post-ban AR.

If I was doing it, I'd blind-pin it and epoxy over the area.

We need a sticky for this or something

Anyway, you can buy w/e stock you want as long as its fixed. Depending on the stock depends on how you want to pin it. Be creative, there is no written law on how to pin a stock and it doesnt have to be permanent. Just make sure it doesnt retract or fold when you hit the level. It can be pinned in w/e position you want as long as it meets the OAL requirement but most stocks shouldnt have a problem. AK stocks such as underfolds and sidefolders can be welded open.

I have a Magpul CTR stock and all i did was drill a hole through the stock and buffer tube and threw in a screw and bolt at the end and epoxied it so it doesnt move. Nothing fancy but it works. Like i said be creative
