We will be putting on an advanced Carbine Course August 27th and 28th at the Gadsden Range (538 MO EE, Iberia, MO 65486) https://www.waze.com/live-map/directions/gadsden-shooting-center-sh-ee-538-iberia?to=place.w.175374716.1754009308.3387587 This will NOT be an introductory course and familiarity with your equipment is expected. Our instructor will be @homeyclaus (Former Canadian Armed Forces, national-level 3Gun competitor, IDPA Competitor, and NRA Instructor) and this course will be designed to maximize your abilities with your rifle and set up your gear appropriately. We want you to get the best takeaway possible with this course and will be very open to drills, tactics or any other items you would like to see addressed. Day 1: Carbine 1 - gear setup - gear maintenance - basic principles of operation - shooting positions - malfunctions - shooting drills - transition drills Day 2: Carbine 2 - advanced drills - move to/break contact - cover drills and shooting positions - competition rules, strategies (optional) Gear: Functional Carbine/Rifle 1000+ rounds ammo 4+ magazines Sling Appropriate LBE for ammo (PC, chest harness, whatever) Appropriate clothing Other PPE: Sunscreen, bug repellant, knee pads Ear/Eye protection - electronic ears preferred Sidearm 3 mags for sidearm 500 rds for sidearm Retaining holster, belt IFAK/boo-boo kit Water/Food APC pack for drop drills Other: open mind, good attitude Fitness - you'll be at the range all day, in the sun Spare parts/spare carbine - stuff WILL break How is this APC-focused? I'll work a lot of the APC elements into the course, mainly about how you do stuff in the field when carrying, and how you set your gear up to not only do well on an APC activity, but not get all jacked up if things get hot. Price: 200 for class 3 or better APC members, 250 for non-members. Usually these sorts of courses are 600-800. No steel ammo at this range as we will be shooting steel targets. M855 and Steel core are no gos. Bi-metal such as Tula, Wolf and S&B is okay. Finally, again this will be an ADVANCED course, but we would like to make sure every one gets the MOST value of this event. If you have a drill or concept you would like homeyclause to address you are encouraged to bring up before or at the event. Looking forward to seeing you all there.  |

I’ve broken 3 and they were all 100% before 2 months had passed. |

We talked about that very thing when I was there for the cold weather patrolling class. The issue there is berm space. I can book a place in WV, near Winchester VA that has the room. I am sure I can also find some other ranges down there that have a 50x50 yd square range that's closer. |

Is the round count really going to be 1000+ rifle and 500 pistol? Speaking for the arfcom poors, the cost of replacing that much ammo takes this from being a no-brainer to a hard maybe. The last carbine course I attended advertised 1k rifle, but I think we ended up shooting less than half that. I guess im wondering if that is the case here. |

Matches will tell you the minimum round count. Courses will tell you the maximum round count. Bringing more is always advised. I mean, SG ammo has Tula and wolf ammo down in the quasi affordable range again  ETA: One of the things you'll learn about your carbine is how to keep it running at that pace: "inter-action maintenance" As a student, instructor, match participant, or RO I have seen just about everything shit the bed, on the clock. |

I'm sure the use of either would need to be negotiated with range management. Failing that, plenty of room to camp, but again, management would probably need to sign off on any on site camping. I for one would be happy to pay a camping fee for the convenience of staying on site. |

I’m all for camping but August in the Ozark is like camping in a mosquito infested sauna without any hot girls or refreshing cold shower after you step out. If a bunk house with AC is an option for $50 or $100 I’d be all for that. I'd take an non-air conditioned room with some fans over a nylon tent just for the comfort it would provide if I can get some fans blowing*. Spooning with gun bros isn’t my style but Ft Benning’s School for Wayward Boys taught me how to sleep through a room full of snoring, farting, masters at setting fish bait. Like a 1SG character in a book said to his company commander "I've been miserable before sir. I don't need to practice it."  *Have fans, will travel! |
