Greetings my Hoosier cousins. I will be making a short trip over to the North Vernon area tomorrow and I was wondering, I know mw CCW is valid in Indiana but I dont know the law concerning carry in a vehicle. can I keep it on my hip or does it need to be in a case or someplace other than on my person.
Thanks

It can be wherever you like –– on your person, in a glovebox, or even lying on the front seat. Loaded or unloaded matters not.

I'm no expert on this subject, since I've never carried a firearm out of state, but isn't there some sort of stipulation that you must follow the laws of your state of residence when carrying out of state, if your state's laws are more restrictive? Something to think about.

No, this is not true. Indiana law states that you must carry according to the terms of your home state license. This means, if you have a CCW license, you must CCW, no open carry. If you live in state that forces you to qualify with a certain gun or type (semi or revolver), then you must carry that. You must still follow Indiana laws on where and where you can't carry.

That said, most Indiana LEO's don't know about the "according to the terms of" statute, and as long as you were following Indiana law, you wouldn't have a problem.

You say "no, this is not true", then post the same exact thing I said.

Sorry, I should clarify. I thought I understood from your post that you meant that you must carry according to OH law in all aspects where it is more restrictive. For example, OH currently prohibits carry into establishments which hold a liquor license. Indiana does not have this prohibition. He is free to carry into bars, restaurants, etc. when he is in Indiana. When the law says "according to the terms of the license" it literally means whatever terms are printed on the license.
