Hey guys, Has anyone taken the Basic Rider's Course for the NYS Motorcycle License? It's $350 where I live but since I don't know anyone else who rides it looks like an option... Any experiences? Truckie |

I took a riding course from the www.msf-usa.org/ about 12 years ago. Best $175 dollars I've spent. The course I took was a 3 day course, 1.5 days in the class and the other 1.5 riding. At the end someone from DMV showed up to take our test on exactly what we spend the last 1.5 days doing, if you passed you received a voucher which they automatically gave you the (M) endorsement when you went to DMV. After that I purchased my first Suzuki Katana an was way ahead of other riders that did the typical rent a scooter and learns 30 minutes before taking the DMV test. Highly recommend it. Like any other skill, learning it properly is key. Cain1 |
| I took the course about 10 years ago at Ulster Community College. It was well worth the cost. There is no better way to get your motorcycle license thatn the MSF courses. With the course you don't have to take the DMV road test and you save money on your insurance a win/win situation. Take it, you will thank us later. |
| i took my course at hudson valley community college .. again .. best money i ever spent .. fastest and easiest way to get your motorcycle endorsment ... 2 day course IF i remember correctly .. 1 day in class ..1 day outside .. or maybe longer outside ... i think i spent 225... that was in 2000. |
| I took it trough learn2ride.net they have locations in Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse. They give you a little 250cc bike to do all the exercises and final test with and then give you a waver so you don't have to take the DMV road test. They're probably booked up but call and get on the waiting list, people cancel all the time. When I did it 3 years ago, I signed up in May and the soonest they could get me in was July but I got on the waiting list as well and got into a session like 2 weeks after I signed up. |

I'll chime in with the chorus here. I took the course at Ulster a few years ago. I agree that it's the best way to get your license. You learn a lot and if you can keep up, you walk out with the M (well not walk out, but it's just paperwork). I'm planning on taking the Experienced Rider Course sometime soon. |

Ft. Drum regulations require a riders course befor being allowed to operate on post (plus some other UCMJ issues for Soldiers). The course was provided free to DoD & Military, else the course was offered at Jefferson Community College for ~$300. I think there is/was a course offered through the BOCES.... Liability runs $75 per year per vehicle for the Motorcycle, ATV, & dirtbike. (clean driving record) This season I have saved enough in fuel costs already to offset all the expenses incurred to make the bike and I road ready. |
| I teach the BRC and ERC here at McGuire AFB. I would recommend that you take a class every couple of years. It is really a great course. I have guys come up to me all the time telling me what they learned in the class saved there life. Well worth the money spent. |
