I have this old Winchester 1400 MkII 12 gauge that has a loooong barrel and isn't threaded for a choke so it's really limited.  It was bought new by my dad back in the late 60's, early 70's so it has sentimental value.  I'm thinking if I can get the barrel shortened a bit and threaded for chokes I could actually use it for skeet or whatever.  It's always ran very well but it's just too long for me and with a cylinder bore there's no versatility.

Is it possible to have the barrel threaded and, if so, is it worth it?  If its possible does anyone know someone who can do it?

Steve Baldwin in Jones at Mechanical Accuracy is world renown for the choke and barrel work he does on shotguns.
Dad has had him cut Remchokes on slug barrels,  put in compensated chokes on Franchi 20 ga shotguns, etc.
He routinely has shotguns from Europe sent to him for choke work. Expensive, handmade shotguns worth 10s of thousands.
I've known him since I was a kid. He is a very good man.

Sounds like a plan.  Since I failed miserably finding a longer barrel to use on my Benelli M1, which is the shotgun I'd prefer to use, I guess I'll have my old Winchester shortened and choked.  Thanks for the info, your help is always appreciated .

You are aware you can get a Model 1400 barrel cheaper than you can have that one choked right? They are very common and inexpensive.

Ummm.....I hadn't even considered that.  I've been looking for the Benelli M1 barrel for over a year without luck so I was thinking a whole different route.  I'll look around for a choked 1400 barrel.

They also came from the factory with removable chokes. I see them all the time for $150 or less.

take a look here; they have lots of hard to find winchester parts

like others have said; unless its got lots of sentimental value it's most likely not worth getting it threaded for screw in chokes or a poly choke (marbles).

hit the pawn shops and see what shotguns they've got for cash deals

The barrels for these are super common on ebay and gunbroker. there was a 24 inch winchoked barrel that sold recently for $200 Its just a matter of watching the auctions and hitting the buy button. Corson Barrels also has 1400 barrels in stock most of the time. The specialize in shotguns , I think Midwestern gun parts also has them as they are the ones who bought all of Winchester's parts and are actually the factory authorized service center for old Winchester guns.

I must be cursed...I've searched every single place I can think and not one single 1400 12 gauge barrel for sale.  Plenty of 1400 shotguns but the only barrels that were selling by themselves weren't 12 gauge.  I'll keep looking I guess.

Brandi,
Check out this link.  Steve at RAS (aka GUNCAT) does impeccable work.  Good luck.
