Wondering if there are any NV users that regularly get together w/in a hour or so of Atlanta (North side). I'd love to get some shooting in that does not involve me, LARPing by myself. Willing to share my toys... |

| I'm pretty new to NV. I've got a PVS-14, L4G24 mount, shroud, helmet, ATPIAL-C, WMX200, X300V, a couple of cheap IR torches and a few suppressors (to keep things quiet). I'd be down for a "Basics of NV" orientation hosted at Angry Emu. I'm also not opposed to compensating someone who teaches this sort of thing. |

Just about to enter the frey into the NV game... With a pair of 14's I've had my eye on. That said, I have ZERO idea where to night shoot. You can usually find me up shooting at Creekside in Taylorsville, but they are daytime only unless you rent the range.....and even then not sure it's kosher past sundown. FTR - I am located in Cobb. |

I was down at GA Firing Line today, and overheard Beau talking about running and gunning on a friendly competition shoot nearby..... Running around w/full kit and shooting stuff during the day, and NV shoots at night. Didn't get a chance to inquire before I left, but I'll be back there early next week and will ask. (edit- Anyone have any idea why I cannot subscribe to this thread?) |

Zeroing IR is laser dependent. Some lasers have a visible laser that’s aligned with the IR, so you just zero the day laser. Night zeroing with IR only is a little harder. Something like a one-inch square of glint tape at 25 yds usually works. Aim at the center, and have your buddy walk it in. |

If you have TWO people one holds the daylight optic on an aiming point at 25 yards (we use paper plates at classes), the 2nd person has NODs on and moves the IR laser dot to the plate while the first person holds the aiming point with the daylight optic. I've seen first round hits within 2 inches and people are always on paper. Tweak it from there as need be. |

Might be in for this. I’ve got WP RNVG’s, couple mounts,MAWL and ATPIAL And a 5 gallon bucket full of cans. I’m no “instructor” but know my way around. Been into NV since 2012 and have attended night shoots and both Night Fighter classes at Telluric Group. I can help out getting gear set up/ zero etc. Depending on timing etc could be a thing. |
| Hog hunting at night is pretty fun, and a good way to get used to your gear. I've done it for years. Having said that, we mostly wiped them out on my lease, and this year I sold my FLIR and IR Defense scopes to pay for a boat. Just have a 14, PEQ-C, and a hand held Pulsar thermal now. The handheld is awesome for spotting deer before they spot you - day or night. |
| I would enjoy looking at other people’s set ups. I have an AN/PVS 14, and other one inbound, as well as a FLIR thermal... I am trying to figure out Helmet v. Weapons mounts for the 14s...I live in Atlanta near 400 & 285. I have a couple of IR Lasers too...... that need to be calibrated / dialed in |

Weapon-mounted NODS are a sniper thing. If you look at the .mil systems, it's a massive objective lens on it for light gathering. Thermal scopes are cool, but it's more like a thermal camera. You just see a picture of heat sources. You can't walk around in the dark all that well without NODS if you ever fire. It you crank a round off, that burns off your purple, and it takes 45 minutes to readjust. Are you doing a bridged set of 14s? Dual-tube? I've seen a pair with the PVS14 tube on one eye and a thermal on the other. It worked pretty well, since the thermals burn through batteries like no one's business. |
