I have been wanting the PX9154L (blackened stainless finish) for quite some time now and have seen 2 or 3 used ones for sale here.  I had my heart set on getting one but now i have a question about the black finish.

How durable is it?

Would it be wiser to get the PX9151LP (plain ss finish)?  So when the matte finish wears off there isnt much of a contrast.

I have searched around online and found both for around 700-750 new, so with shipping and transfer fees around 750-800.  I live in south FL so the gunshops here are pretty unreasonably priced.

I also looked at the GI models but I dont like the sights.  It seems it would cost about the same to get a different set of installed

I'd go with the one you like the best. The blackened finish is just a duurable an any other finish. Matte stainless has it's negitives also, so go with the one that make you happy.

What he said. You already answered it, it's the one you had your heart set on. Finish wear is an unfortunate reality of life with nearly any finish, but no reason to live with a pistol you are "settling" for. And stick with the loaded model, much more "bang for your buck" (pun intended).

As to the gun shops in S. Fla. being unreasonable, just because they're not in step with internet prices does not make them so. They've got expenses lots of online sellers don't have, and need to generate that money some how. Some dealers do it in volume with the internet (check Bud's for an example), but others must rely on local customers to keep them afloat. Not saying you gotta buy from them (most of my purchases are the best deal I can find on line) but no need to dog them for making a living either. They just have a different business philosophy than you wish to deal with .

makes sense, I just didnt want to be disappointed if the black oxide finish was easily damaged.

I checked on a 1911 forum and there isnt any concrete evidence for me to stay away from the black SS

thanks for the input
