A weapon that has a "Falling Block" type of action... what is that?

Take a look at the Savage/stevens "favorite" 22, that's a falling block. The breech moves down when the action is opened,exposing the chamber.

guys this is all well and good telling me what weapons are falling block but it does nothing to tell me what a falling block weapon is... can you explain WHAT it is rather than who makes/made them?
