I'm putting about 250 total rounds in my XD45 today. At first the rounds were pointing downward with the slide stuck open, then it was like a stovepipe but the round never made it into the chamber; it cycled  back far enough to eject the casing but the slide hit the bullet before it made it into the chamber and dented the casing with the bullet pointing upward. and finally  the gun would not cycle completely back, it would shoot the bullet then cycle far enough to cock the firing pin but i had to manually cycle the slide to fire each round after that. this is with all factory ammo and not the same brand. when i first got the gun i had similar problems and sent it back to Springfield to get fixed they said that they had corrected the problem. i fired about 50 rounds when i got it back due to lack of ammo supply and now i have the same if not worse problem.

There are some things to check on your end:

1) Are you holding two-handed? It's possible the thumb of your support hand is
dragging on the slide and not letting the slide fully cycle. This happens a lot.
2) Are your magazines seating fully when inserted? Another common problem.
3) Did you clean the pistol when you got it back from Springfield? What are you using for lube?
4) What factory ammo are you shooting? 45's will usually eat anything, but there are some
that are finicky about what you feed them.

Sounds like you may be snagging the slide, I agree.  If not, lube it up good, if it stills fails to cycle, it may have an abnormallly heavy recoil spring, and your ammo is not producing enough pressure to cycle the pistol.  You can order lighter springs also. If you don't have a knowledgable gunsmith in your area I would send it back to Springfield and get them to re-work it, this could result in a dangerous situation.

The magazine springs can be kind of weak.  I would suggest getting a set of extra power springs from AGP.  I have the XD45 compact and 4 magazines (two extended and two compact).  I bought two of the AGP springs and replaced the springs in the full size mags with those and put the stock full size mag springs into the compact magazines.  Haven't had any issues at all.

I did this more as a precaution since I heard the spings were weak and didn't want to have any issues with my carry gun.

if your sure your not rubbing up on the slide while shooting then try another magazine. the XD line is great but the mags tend to suck lol

Hope you figure it out.  I've got the same pistol, but bought it as a backup, and haven't shot it much.

I'm interested to hear the solution to this.
