Dang, I didn't know Combat Armory was making M9 barrels now.

I have seen better bores from pounding a rifling button through the barrel.  But not much better.

Keep your powder dry, and watch your back trail.

I'm watching my back trail.

Clean? If so it's ''blind man QC.'' ''Yep, outside feels good, send it.''

US made beretta? They seem to be having some major issues with barrel manufacture.

I don't think it is, but hopefully that's a bad case of leading.  If that's machining, it's horrid.  Clean it and see if it still looks that bad.  If it does, send it back to Beretta.

Surprisingly ok.  Off a sand bag with a red dot makes a grape cluster at 25m and 17 rounds.  Im not a great shot though so it probably still shoots better than I do.

Chatter marks and poor chrome, probably a Tennessee made barrel.

It's a pistol barrel so if it shoots OK I probably wouldn't worry too much about it, but you have a very valid warranty claim right there.

The chrome lining isn't adhering well because of the rough machining.  Deep scratches and smearing from dull cutters trap grease and other contaminants.  When they run it through the chemical baths to chrome plate the bore, these contaminants prevent the chemicals from properly etching the metal surface. And then the chrome doesn't stick properly.

Heres a bore scope picture from inside a M9 barrel made in Beretta's Gallatin, TN plant.

Don't bother with trying to get them to send you a replacement barrel.  You will have to send in the entire gun, and it took them about a month to fix it for me.  In my case there was so much wrong with the gun that they replaced thw whole thing.

But, I also had some M9A4 barrels with internal defects and just bought replacement barrels.  Even the replacements weren't perfect, but they were much better.

I really like Beretta's guns, but don't buy online.  Make sure you buy from a dealer that will let you field strip and inspect it before buying, paying close attention to the bore, but also look at the locking block and frame where the locking block slides in.  The rough machining on the locking blocks can cause premature wear on the anodizing.

They want me to send in the entire pistol.

Its "our policy."

Send it and they will fix it; or dont send it and replace it yourself.  Your choice.

The trouble with replacing it yourself by ordering a barrel online is you don't get to inspect that barrel either.

Just send the whole gun back.  I know it's a stupid policy for a company that sells drop in barrels separately, but that's the only way you end up with a barrel tnat someone thinks looks good enough you won't notice any flaws.

I went back and forth with their customer service on this very issue and it was the only way to get it fixed for sure.

In my case, I used their web form to submit my return, and had every little nitpicking issue well documented with photos.  They ended up sending me a whole new gun.  I'd sent them just the gun itself in a cardboard box, and they sent back a new gun in a plastic box with 2 magazines and everything, and the new gun is in much better condition.

No, you shouldn't have to go through the hassle, inconvenience, and the month long wait.  You absolutely should not.  But in the end they fixed it up and I ended up with an extra box and 2 extra mags for my trouble.

Looks like tool chatter / trapped chips from gun drilling prior to rifling. Send the pistol back and let them replace the barrel.

This.

I had the same thing with a new M9A4 out of the box.  Evidently this is a thing with the TN made guns.

I contacted Beretta and sent emails with pictures.  Never heard back from them.

I sold it at a loss.

Makes me wonder if they would have sorted this out if they had gotten military contracts.

Nobody is coming. It's up to you.

They also don't replace parts, they'll send another gun and if sales are good they may not get any at the warranty center for a while. Another poster had the same issue a year or two ago and it took them 10 months to send a replacement.

There was a guy on youtube did better with a drill,  a hardened bolt sharpened with a cutoff wheel and a hammer.

I went that route.  The same people that do QC for the replacement barrels do it for the ones that go in the guns.  You might end up with 2 bad barrels.

When the inside of a barrel is bad enough to visually see from the end, if you used a borescope it would really look bad.

Here's a BA nitride rifle barrel I had received a few years ago.  It was never able to group anything better than 4" at 100 yds.  So I finally ran a bore scope through it.  It looked like the inside of a corrugated metal culvert pipe.  From the end it wasn't noticeable, but using a borescope showed how bad it was.  As a comparison, here's a FN chrome lined barrel that looked like a mirror.

The last two Beretta barrels I purchased look pretty bad.  Very amateurish.

About as bad as the last Beretta I purchased-  Machine marks on the exterior of the slide were so bad, that I had the salesman bring me one after another from the stockroom until I found one that wasn't horrible.

All of these issues were TN produced guns.  Their DEI hires need to go back to slinging french fries.

And then, he arrives at the last item on his bucket list...

Dang. An old Taurus is better than Beretta now. New Taurus barrels suck but at least they will send a replacement.
