Carried and shot Glocks for 15 years. Got a new G17 Gen 4 and installed a Vickers slide stop and extended mag release. When I released the slide by pressing the slide stop down, slide goes forward, no issues. When I try to sling shot the slide, it won't go. Loaded, unloaded, doesn't matter. I put 150 rounds through it and it did start to go forward when done sling shot style but it was random. I searched the inter web but really couldn't find anything similar. No issues with the factory part. Ideas? Thanks.

yeah and just make sure the spring is pushed to the far left. When I put mine in a couple of months back the wire spring on the lever wasn't directly over the lever, under the pin but was further right than the lever. I just took a punch and pushed it over and it's been fine ever since. That might be a little hard to follow.

The spring is under the top pin. It is very random now. Maybe once out of 10 tries, just won't pop down like it is hung on something. I will take it out, check the spring, clean, re-install and go from there. Does the stock one do this. Might need to just work the pistol by hand locking the slide and releasing it with your thumb the start wearing the slide and stock together. Could also mean you might have one that is just slightly oversized out of spec maybe a little excessive paint/finish on the metal. |
So I believe it is figured out. I finally had time to take it apart and look at it. The spring on the Vickers was a little more closed than the Glock so I opened it up a little. Still didn't work right. Started looking a little more and discovered it was not sliding down over the frame unless in the perfect position. I took some needle nose pliers to it, opened up the opening that slides down over the frame and it works fine now. Not been to the range, but it is not hanging up at this point. A little disappointed in the quality, but not a big deal I guess. Thanks.
Doubt it really. Came in a plastic, undamaged box. Didn't work correctly from day 1. It was simply not to spec. It happens, no biggie. Hopefully this thread can help someone with the same problem someday. I couldn't find many issues with these, so I just got a funky one.
