'm taking my first real pistol training in a couple weeks, a 2-day Fighting Pistol by Tactical Response. I hate to admit this around all y'all geardos, but i have ZERO holsters, gunbelts, and mag pouches floating around...yet I need all those for the class.

I'm leaning towards a Wilderness 5-stitch riggers belt to hang stuff off of. I've heard some recommendations for blade-tech kydex holster and mag pouches. Thoughts? Open top or some form of retention?  If i do go Blade-Tech, Tek-Lok or StingRay attachment?

Thanks guys.

That belt should be great.  I'm a huge fan of the Blackhawk CQC Serpa line of holsters and gear.  You can get everything you'd ever want from that line for a reasonable price.  Don't buy direct from Blackhawk or you'll pay msrp rather than the lower prices offered elsewhere.

I would go with the belt you mention and something like an outside the belt Bladetech for a 1.75 belt. Unless you are planning on using the holster for CCW the get the inside the belt version. I do not like the tec lock, I like the belt loop or rubber strap options for attachment.
Go open top no additional retention other than the holster tension.
Mag pouches Blade tech is good, I used TT, LBT and Blade tech all are fine. It does not have to be Kydex, but if that is what you like Bladetech is a fine choice.

Can't go wrong with a Wilderness belt.  Lots of good choices in holsters; Blade-Tech is as good as any.  Do NOT get any thumbsnap or strap on top of the holster.  Open-top is the way to go.

Just make sure that whatever you decide on, that the place actually has the stuff in stock.  You're running out of time.  I just got a Wilderness Titanium Belt.  The buckles were out of stock.  It took over a month to get the belt.  The equipment mentioned should do you fine.  I have experience w/ Bladetech tek-lok and their belt tunnel type.
Either will serve you fine for a range holster.  Open top retention is fine in most range situations.

Not trying to troll, just my $.02.

Have fun at the course.

No, I appreciate it.  I ordered my belt and Blade-Tech stuff a week and a half ago.  Course is 16-17 JUN so I should (hopefully) have enough time to get everything.  Blade-Tech was quoting 3-4 weeks at the time, so we'll see when it gets in.

Might wanna get some knee pads while you're at it.

My first line consists of

DBT Battelab belt
DBT Battelab suspenders
6005 riding high
Emdom 6o4
Tactical Tailor 30 round AR mag shingle
Maxpedition Roly Poly dump pouch
Emdom med utility pouch (for the first aid)

The knee pads....I have a pair of Altas w/ the buckles (were the best (cross the straps in the back) but I have heard a lot of good reviews about the new hatch knee and elbow pads.  They have the buckles like Altas yet a lil lower profile.

Might also wanna look into a Camelbak or a pouch for a water bottle.

Also make sure you have plenty of mags so you're not constantly reloading mags.

A good set of gloves may be handy also if you don't shoot a lot then you're gonna have blisters out the wazzoo definitely w/out gloves.

A good hat or boonie w/ some ear and eye pro is also nice

Underarmour long sleeves or the likes is good...along w/ some neck protection.  Needless to say...hot brass sucks and so do sunburns.

Also bring some snacks such as energy bars or other chewy snacks.

If you have time make sure to bring some spare parts for whatever side arm you're taking.  Chances are stacked against you when you don't take spare parts to a class.

Those are some of the basics I could think of.  Most of all have fun!
