Here is my Tisas Duty DS. I've had it around 3 weeks now, and ran close to 700rnds through it. Hasn't missed a beat. I really liked the grip on my buddies Prodigy (Tisas is too slick), so I bought some cheap grip tape cutouts for a Stacatto P...and fit it perfectly. Made a huge difference....hopefully they stay on for a long time.

Picked up one of the Yukon 10mms Palmetto had on sale over Presidents’ Day. Couldn’t pass it up at 469.00! Swapped the grips for a set of Hogues and the trigger for a short Greider with the smooth face. Also got a front night sight from SDS. Hoping to get to the range tomorrow. Attached File It runs but pretty meh. The safety can be activated by a strong breeze, the bushing doesn’t sit flush with the slide but only on one side, not much movement but get a nice click and small wiggle pushing down on the barrel hood, reset is pretty soft and mushy, lock time is really long for the hammer to drop, seems to be over sprung, trigger has a lot of up and down play, and the Cerakote was laid on way too thick. They removed the Raider markings for the new threaded model. They use properly O-ringed threads so very appreciative of that. Trigger comes in at about 4.25 pounds. The grips are much nicer than I expected from the pictures. The magazine catch is strong enough you can hold the gun vertical and eject an empty mag as a secondary projectile. Slide to frame fit is really good, but the thick Cerakote is gritty and needs worn in more than a couple hundred rounds. In all, I think it’s okay for $600. I think the guys who say it blows away a Springfield for half the cost are smoking the good stuff.  Would really like to get one of their Match pistols. And a Tank Commander. And a DS.ETA: This thing smoothed out really good. I was unaware that the old lore of pushing down on the barrel hood requires holding the slide shut to mean anything. If I hold it forward it doesn’t budge at all, meaning it was just the gun starting to unlock before. The safety is too loose though. I think this is actually because the Tisas safety is paper thin and the safety rides on the radius of the detent instead of the peak. So eventually I might replace the safety and detent spring. |

I removed the o-ring on the threads. Had to tap the bushing off with it on. Unfortunately the thread protector has no shoulder so it threads on too far without the o-ring, which broke pulling it off. ETA: worked the reset without letting it fully reset for a few minutes straight and it made a world of difference. Reset is gritt free now and a lot more positive. |

Finally caved to the Tisas pressure this week. Twice. Being local to Grab-a-Gun can be dangerous. Monday, I was sucked in by the $299 "1911-A1 Government Parkerized..." (UPC 723551446751) which is clearly Cerakoted gray. Whatever, not gonna bitch for the price. I've already started whackin' away at the cartoonish finish with some Scotchbright. After doing some more research on Tisas' convoluted model naming and numbering, I figured out what I really wanted was the 1911-A1 US Army "ASF" (UPC 723551444191), so this was added to the stable today. This one has the more accurate GI features and a nice dark manganese phosphate finish. They really need to work on their naming conventions or supply lines or something, because that first one's UPC isn't anywhere on Tisas' or SDS's websites, and several retailers show it as a parkerized model. Anyway, here are some pics showing some differences. 1911-A1 Govt model (UPC 723551446751) (The Cerakote has been Scotchbrighted to tone it down):   ASF model (UPC 723551444191):   The 1911-A1 Govt has the lowered ejection port and beveled magwell, the ASF does not.   The 1911-A1 Govt has the wide spur hammer and a 7-Rib/8-Groove MSH, the ASF has the narrowed hammer and 8-Rib/9-Groove MSH:   Haven't detail stripped to look at the guts yet, but I can see both have a Series 80 firing pin stop (no pics). Gobble gobble. |

$400 TISAS Arrives at my FFL this week. I'll post a pic of the one I actually get as soon as it comes home, and I put a big IDIOT SCRATCH in the nickel. At least that's about how long a nickel 80-series COLT I once own lasted. "Mister Nine Millimeter" Yeah, I know the nickel 9mm in the movie is a STAR Model B. But its the inspiration/motivation for me getting the nickel TISAS. Attached File Also includes 38 super barrel I already have 9mm TISAS "TANK COMMANDER." It works perfectly. I might have preferred a STAR Model B to be "correct" for tribute to the movie. But nickel versions are scarce, and people are more proud of them than I would be willing. I kinda like the idea of 38 SUPER as a bonus on the good price. They aren't GIVING THEM AWAY, but its close. I have several TISAS and several Rock Island. All the TISAS seem to have a better trigger out of the box. Not that the Rock Island triggers are bad at all. But the TISAS triggers are so especially good, its practically unbelievable. Attached File I'm not super happy with the trigger; it has more vertical play than I'd like, so a black Wilson trigger is probably next on the list. It does have a very crisp break at 3.75#, though. Other than the safety plunger spring (which was weak), none of this was really needed, but it's been a fun project to experiment with. |

5" Duty, single stack 9mm. I bought this to learn how to work on 1911's. Tisas sight replacement, FO front, U notch rear. Replaced and fit a better ambi safety, new plunger spring and pins. fit a NH Magwell/MSH. Installed a short trigger. [not pictured] Polished all internals. It has 90% of the features I like on a 1911: GI sights, vertical cocking serrations, commercial thumb safety, short trigger, flat MSH, GI grip safety... The only thing I don't like is the wide hammer, but that's an easy swap to a narrow spur hammer. Black Cerakote doesn't bother me, as it's easier to match parts here and there if I want to change something up. They are $299 at a bunch of places. |
