Ok, my friend has a Taurus 651 Titanium 5 shot .357 Magnum. The problem is, sometimes the Cylinder stop isn't coming up, so the cylinder can rotate freely. It doesn't happen everytime, but it happens off and on. We found that it happens the most when you cock the hammer to shoot SA. Typically it will pop up when you pull the trigger DA. We took it apart and cleaned it, didn't help any. We took the Cylinder Stop plunger out of the yoke and noticed that it has a raised ridge on the shaft of the plunger, it also seems like it hangs up a bit and doesn't slide in and out of the yoke smoothly. What is causing this problem?

Typically, that is a broken/damaged spring or a burr or poor fitting on the bolt interfaces. Does the bolt slide through the cutout in the frame easily?

my model 94 does that too.  when i cock it single action the cylinder free wheels after the hammer locks back.  the little cylinder lock that rises from the bottom does not come up out of the frame to lock the cylinder.  i took the thing apart to see what was up,  i think maybe a little sliver of stainless under the catch.

Sending it back to Taurus does not guarantee that the problem is addressed properly. On top of that, their turn-around time is known to be not the best.

Your cylinder stop does not come up right, it could be because the stop is slightly oversized, or that the window has a burr in it. The raised ridge can be used to adjust the height of the cylinder stop, i.e. if it does not rise far enough, filing the ridge down, will raise the stop. At least that's what they are for on S&W.

In this case, it sounds as if the stop or window need some fitting or polishing.

Ok, we'll take a look at the cylinder stop and the window it sits in. When you say raised ridge, are you referring to the raised ridge on the cylinder stop plunger? Also, is it just possible that the cylinder stop spring is too weak?
