I had a NIB TLE II that I shot a few rounds through. I had no problems with it, but I only shot about 200 rounds. I sold it to a buddy of mine (for $600, which made him feel better when the gun ended up not working). Let me just say, Kimber has such a good quality frame, slide, and barrel, it's frustrating to see that the rest of their guns can suck so bad from a quality control standpoint. My friend took it to an indoor range a month ago, and called me afterwards to tell me that he had failure to feeds on every mag. I met with him the other day to shoot it, at the same indoor range. Our indoor ranges are lead free, and I surmised it might have something to do with ammo. I shot the same ammo (Speer and Winchester LE frangible stuff), and had no problems out of two Springfields and an internal extractor Kimber. His gun would not work. He kept getting failure to extracts. I checked the gun out. I could easily wiggle the extractor back and forth, and I would guess that there was less than 8 ounces of lateral pressure on the case rim. Cases were left in the chamber, and everything was stock on this pistol. We were using Wilson mags. It was truly pathetic. The round count on this gun is under 500, and the thing is so loose, there is nothing to do but send it back. One wonders if Kimber uses a low bid vendor for their springs. Since many external extractor Kimbers have overly tight springs, and this one is not tight enough, it appears their spring quality is as erratic as their MIM parts durability. I'm only bringing this up as an informal review. I've owned many good Kimbers, but I've seen a ton of messed up ones. Here's another bad apple. |

That's why I hate to sell things to friends. You just never know what could happen. I had a similar issue with a car that never had any problems. I went in the service then sold the car to a friend while I was in. He had nothing but problems with it, and he even commented on how I never had any problems with it. I felt so bad I gave him his money back but he would only take half. A sale to a freind can end a good friendship if things go wrong. I don't sell things to friends anymore because of the experience even though it worked out OK. |
