I am considering making my 1911 my normal carry weapon for a number of reasons but have a question for you.

At night I normally store my CCW in the safe (don't worry I have something else for inside the house) and this is where my question come in.

I plan to carry cocked and locked but when I store it would I want to safely decock it or just leave it cocked and locked?

Thanks,

CSP

You are better off leaving it C&L. When you maintain your pistol regularly (scheduled cleaning and spring replacement ) C&L is harmless to the weapon. What you will find however, is that continual loading of carry ammo will sooner or later result in the bullets being pushed back into the casing. When that happens you must discard the ammo or risk a dangerous situation with an overpressured chamber. So just take the IWB off the belt & throw it in the safe.

I keep my 1911 in a quick access safe so I can get to it in case of home invasion and I keep it cocked and locked at all times.

Every 1911 I own is C&L sitting in the safe or on my hip.
