I voted for Kimber.  For me, I like the fact that Kimbers are made in America vs. Springfields made in Brazil.  My Kimber Pro Carry II has been 100% reliable.  I did however install the Wolff Improved XP recoil springs before I even shot it the first time.  The Kimber magazines are less than satisfactory.  Only use Wilson Combat magazines in my 1911's.

Not all Springfields are made in Brazil

ETA: NM, it looks as even the Springfield customs use Brazil parts. I was not aware of
this, but they still make a great pistol. I believe that if the SN has NM in it then it was
built in the USA but out of forgings from Brazil.

Just bought a Springer LW Champion Operator. I've had a Loaded. Very nice gun.

Springfield Loaded or higher package all the way.
I have had 2 Kimbers with nothing but problems and piss poor service. I really wanted to reach through the phone and choke the life out of the cocky little ass in their custom shop.

I have had 3 Springfield loaded 1911's, 1 Full rail Loaded Operator, 1 Lightweight Operator, and 1 Ultra compact Loaded. and 4 XDs. Of those I still have the the two operators and miss my 9mm xd. Springfield makes some great weapons and occasionaly has problems as with any manufacturer, but their Customer service in OUTSTANDING. I had to send my full size back to them for finish wear issues and the made up for it by Armory Coating it for free under warranty. Resolved the problem and made the gun function even better.

I have never had a Milspec 1911 from them but would imagine the are well built to. My next purchase from them will be either a Fullsize Lightweight Operator or a Professional Operator for my next duty gun when I retire my current operator.

They are the only company I trust my life to everyday.

Kimber - stock from the box - added the lasermax internal laser and Wilson cCombat mags.  Nothing wrong with SA - just my preference.

If you can't buy a Series I or any Kimber without a FPS then go for the Springfield.

I voted for SA.  I have a Kimber as well as a couple of SA's, plus a whole slew of other 1911's.  I am not a fan of Series II even though the Kimber I have hasn't caused any problems.  That particular gun is strictly a range gun though, so i'm not extremely concerned about it in that case.  On the other hand, I just picked up a TRP last week which brought my 1911 count back up to an even dozen.  I can't say enough about what a nice job they did on that gun.  I had my SA Professional out on the TRP's first range trip and found that performance-wise the TRP comes very close to matching a full out Pro.  I'm not going to say it has anywhere near the quality of parts or handwork of a Pro, but as for results, they do well.  Since SA has also refrained from trying to change the 1911 with safties we don't need, I believe they get the support.  They may use Brazilian forgings but their prices reflect the lower cost and in the case of SA, that does not come at the expense of quality.

AJ

Thats why I sold all my Kimbers except my Warrior and Covert Pro, but somehow the safety broke and lost some parts.  I have Springer Pro, and a CQB also.  Might get a SIS since it does not have a FP safety.
