Ive put about 1500 round through it since I bought it this past summer. At the range the other day I had a horizontal stove pipe, and previous to that the slide failed to go completely back into battery (the extractor didnt catch the lip of the brass). Im anal about maintenance and it was properly lubed. Ive been told that the recoil spring may need replacement. Anyone else concur or have another suggestion? If it is a recoil spring, where can I get a factory Springfield spring for the TRP? Thanks

I think the general recommendation on recoil springs is to replace them every 3-4k. Unless the TRP uses some different type of spring than a standard Gov't model, you can buy replacements from numerous places. Brownells, midwayusa, natchez shooters supply, etc. I believe the standard factory spring weight in a Gov't model is 16 pounds. Some people go up to an 18 pound or even higher if they shoot a lot of hot loads.

IMO, I would shoot the gun again after marking the magazines. It could be that a bad magazine is causing the malfunctions. If it is a magazine, and it's a springfield mag, they will replace it(they replaced one of mine, YMMV).

I hate to say this but both malfunctions can be induced by limp wristing. I would put more rounds down range before I diagnosed the gun or the mags as the problem. See if the malfunctions repeat.

Don't you think after firing 1,500 rounds he might have limp wristed somewhere before today???

Of course, I forgot it's always the gun. it's never the shooter.
