I have a Sig P226 that the slide does not locking back on after the last shot. I have tried this with only one magazine (only shooting with one yesterday at the range) and it just started happening yesterday in the middle of shooting. The weapon and mags are brand new. I got them about a month ago and figure I have approximately 1000 rounds through it so far.

This concerns me because it is my duty weapon. What would be the culprit here? A damaged mag follower, weakened spring, issue with the locking lever? Any help is appreciated.

ETA: I tried searching but yielded nothing.

Sounds like a mag issue.  If it happens with your other mags, best have the weapon looked at by your department armourer.

Look at your grip and make sure your thumb is not on the slide release. The other is some do not keep a firm enough grip while shooting.

Are you sure that you're lubricating the slide well enough?  I had this problem a little while ago and this turned out to be the issue.  I went home and cleaned/lubed it well and never had the problem again...

If this has never happened before in 1K rounds, have to assume grip is correct, next magazine is new, so unless defective it's not the problem, my guess would be to clean and lube.  Hard to diagnose over computer though...

With Sigs it's generaly too little lube on the rails or too thick of grease, combined with wimpy practice ammo.
It happened to me today in cold weather from too thick grease and wimpy ammo. I was using heavy lithium grease from the hardware store on the rails and Mag Tech 9mm practice ammo. It happened on all three mags of Mag tech.

In the summer that combo works fine. I switched to Winchester SXT's and the problem went away.

The guys over at Sigforum recomend either lite slide glide or TW-25b or whatever that's called.

Seems unlikely that a new magazine would be the culprit, and I don't know about you, but I would have to crank my thumb pretty hard to get it to rest on the slide release lever while shooting.

I think it's likely what you're suggesting. The weapon was lightly oiled before hand so i think it attracted dirt. I agree that it'd be pretty hard to get my thumb to engage the slide release and I'm certain my grip wasn't the issue (G19 runs fine....if you're going to limpwrist that's the platform where it'd show up).

I just tried out 2 factory refinished P226 mags that I recently got online and they have the same problem.  The Mecgar mags that I have lock the slide back no problem.  Solution is to order extra strength Wolff mag springs.  I know they come in 5% and 10% stronger flavors.  I'm hoping this fixes my problem.

I didn't read the links for other ARF.com posts, but I found that some of the officers that I shoot with (P226 in .357sig) can have this problem but remedy it fairly quickly. First if you're 226 has Houge grips it's easy to let the thumb rise and rest on the slide release. Then if the grips aren't the case I would look at the mag. I found that the Mec Gar mags seem to give me more troubles, but after replacing the original springs, they've functioned flawlessly.
