| So any chance we will see any- aside from the 36? Being your average sized joe, a 17 or even a 19 is a bit tough to conceal in the summer heat. I could really go for a 19 sized single stack. Any rumblings of something like this afoot? |

Thanks fellas, but the point of the thread is a single-stack Glock, not really what possible alternatives are available. Glock 26: too short and fat Khar: no mooneys for me Kel-tec: maybe, but its looks and feel do not inspire confidence J-frame: maybe and on and on..... |
Don't forget the "high quality" adjustable sights they throw away in Smyrna... |
I don't think single stack or round count is part of the points calculation. Caliber is and since all the existing 9mm Glocks pass, a single stack in any of the current models would also pass. You can see the chart here: http://glockfaq.com/models.htm about 3/4 of the way down the page. My complete guess on the matter is that Glock doesn't feel there is a large enough market to warrent the cost of spinning up what would essentially be new models, just like the 36. Another guess is that the 36 isn't selling like crazy. Perhaps if the 36 was flying off the shelves Glock would consider a single stack 9mm. If you think about it a single stack 9mm would be a civilian product and would cut out the largest part of Glock's market. Police, gov't agencies and foreign militaries wouldn't buy it due to low round capacities. It wouldn't even be a great choice as a BUG for LEO since a single stack couldn't use the G17 or G19 mags. Without mag compatibility a small wheelgun makes just as much sense for a BUG. So I wouldn't hold my breath waiting/wishing for a single stack 9mm from Glock. If you want a single stack Glock then you're stuck with the 36, which really isn't that much smaller than my G19 to tell you the truth. If you can carry the 36, you can carry the 19. If you want a smaller 9mm w/single stack I believe you're stuck with other vendors. Ron |

glockfaq.com/models.htm#points What is the BATF points system and how does it affect Glocks? Many of the Glock's parts and sometimes the whole gun are dictated or limited by the BATF's system of "import points". To qualify for import a pistol must score 75 points based on the following system: Characteristic Points Length: for each 1/4" over 6" 1 Forged steel frame 15 Forged HTS alloy frame 20 Unloaded weight w/mag (per oz.) 1 .22 short and .25 auto 0 .22 LR and 7.65mm to .380 auto 3 9mm parabellum and over 10 Locked breech mechanism 5 Loaded chamber indicator 5 Grip safety 3 Magazine safety 5 Firing pin block or lock 10 External hammer 2 Double action 10 Drift adjustable target sight 5 Click adjustable target sight 10 Target grips 5 Target trigger 2 For example, here is how the G17 scores: Length (7.28") 5 Weight (24.79oz) 25 Caliber (9mm) 10 Locked breech 5 Firing pin block 10 Double action 10 Target sight 10 Target grips 5 Total 80 Here is how the Glock 26 scores: Length (6.29") 1 Weight (21.87oz) 22 Caliber (9mm) 10 Locked breech 5 Firing pin block 10 Double action 10 Target sight 10 Target grips 5 Target trigger 2 Total 75 Changes and features made to Glocks to comply with the BATF rules: - all models are imported with a cheap click-adjustable rear sight that is replaced at the factory with the stock sight - target (grooved) trigger added to compacts & subcompacts - target grips added to all models (required for the subcompacts) - due to their caliber, .380 autos (G25 & G28) do not score enough points to be imported For more information, including the point system for revolvers check the rec.guns FAQ at w.recguns.com/IIG6.html |
While the argument is completely logical; many guns are sold as BUGs. Though single stacks might not have mag commonality, how many BUGs do? It hasn't stopped HK from producing a few different compact-ish guns that have proprietary mags; wheel guns do not share mag commonality. One of the most important features of a Glock single stack would be Glock's reputation and track record. That alone would sell thousands. But I'm not holding my breath.. |
I've got to kind of agree with Ron, Glock makes weapons primarily for the LEO and Military establishment. They've pretty much shown us that unless those markets want a gun we won't see it, for example the only reason we have the 21SF is because the military was looking for that weapon. The 26/27/33 are Glock's answer to LEO request for a small BUG, and those guns do work well and use the larger duty weapons magazines. We can all keep wishing for a single stack gun, but the only way it will happen is if a large government agency asks for it. Steve |
Thanks for clearing that up i_b |

Other link I posted was bad. Here is the correct one. www.recguns.com/Sources/IIG6.html |
Well then, it sounds like the answer is the G36 ! |
They are about to throw another set away in a few days.............night sights for my new Glock

If you're set on a 9mm, but are happy with the size of the G36, then by a G19. The dimensions are quite close. If you want a single stack 9mm Glock, so do I.

Casual, I'm not a dress type. I ordered a C-tac; maybe a good holster can make a difference. As far as buying a 19 goes, I'm already two deep on that score. I would like something slimmer. |
We have something in common besides name. I too have two G19s. I have two c-tac holsters, both OWB, one belt and one paddle in a cross draw. Both for open carry situations. I want to get the c-t.a.c. IWB holster for concealed carry. What model did you order? Please post your thoughts on the holster when you receive it. Ron P.S. Regarding single stack 9mm. I was flipping through a magazine and came across the Walther PPS. Not much bigger than a PPK. Has 3 different mag types, a 6, 7, & 8 round. Each round adds length to the mag. The 7 rounder looks like you'd be able to get your pinky on it. I might have to see if I can rent one of those and check it out. |
