Anybody hear any rumors about glock making a
singlr stack 9mm? I really would like to see that,I'm looking for a pocket 9 and the only thing I've seen thus far that is acceptable is the Keltec PF-9. rigger7 |

I'd bet a single stack 9mm will be released about the same time as the Glock carbine... Rumors abound, but I'd wonder if Glock would be able to import a single stack 9mm due to the ATF points system. If they start production here then perhaps that's something on Glock's long term business plan...

I've wanted a single stack Glock 9mm for a long time. I don't think It'll happen. Never heard any rumors about it.
For a pocket 9mm auto, you may also want to take a look at the Kahr PM9. I'm leery of the reliability of pocket autos, however, and would opt for a J-frame revo for pocket carry. |

Quoted: What is generally considered the smallest 9mm that is reliable? Just wondering Probably the Rohrbaugh –– but it is scarce, expensive, and I'm not sure it's old enough or out in large enough numbers to be considered "reliable" by some folks (although my understanding is that they are very well-made and work very well). |

Thanks for the response. I have always wondered what in the design of a very small pocket semi-auto makes in more inherently unreliable than its bigger brothers. Personally, I just can't trust really small semi-autos over a J-frame or similar. |

there was a market for the g36 - how much of a market is there for a single stack 9?
in my area, they can't keep the '26 on shelves.... I just don't see the pressing need for a single stack from their perspective. (and I carry a single stack 9mm, so not saying i disagree!!!!) |

I'll believe it when I see it. |

Maybe the market isn't there. ![]() I have to believe that a small single-stack Glock 9mm would capture much (most?) of the target market that is currently buying the small single-stack 9mms from Kel-Tec, Kahr, Walther, Taurus, etc. –– but I'll be the first to admit that I don't know the size of that market. There may not be enough demand for them to bother with it. I want (and I don't think I'm alone) my pocket guns to absolutely disappear in my pocket when I carry them, no printing at all –– as much as I love my G26 and my J-frames, neither one does that for me in the business attire I wear daily, regardless of the holster I use (I have tried many times over the years). |

A single stack 9mm Glock in either 19 or 26 size would fly off the shelves. Companies like Kahr only stay in business because Glock doesn't make a single stack 9mm. Hell even all of those G26's you see being sold, I bet at least 80% of those buyers would have opted for a single stack G26 if such a thing existed. Next to the Glock carbine (maybe), a single stack 9mm has to be the most often requested new Glock variant ever. Between here and Glock talk, this topic comes up almost weekly. |

I thought the holy grail of glocks was a single stack 45? (the 36 seemed a bit big to me for a 6 round pistol, also trigger was real light.) |

There IS a market. Glock just cannot make a profit in the market big enough to justify entry.
Glock, like Hk, Colt, Sig Sauer, are after the lucrative mil/leo contracts. When they get them, they need all of their manufacturing capacity to make the contract guns. Glock is not total "fuck you civilian! you suck!" like Hk or even Colt might be, but from their point of view, they would be serving a small portion of their second-tier market. Every gun they make is primarily made with mil or leo use in mind. These attributes carry over to their civilian market very well. The small, single-stack market is represented by Kahr, Walther, Taurus, etc. Glock would be a large elephant in the room with those more specialized manufatuers. Glock has very little variation in their manufacturing, which gives them a much higher cost to specialize. I'm sure that glock has looked into the slim-9 market before and determined that they cannot enter the market effectively. I think they could have 10 - 15 years ago, but they did not see CCW being such a big thing i'm sure. They probably DID fail to anticipate the market, but cannot enter it now. They probably don't make much money on the investment they put into the 36. They probably only have a minimum invested into the production of the 36, so it's probably maxed out in it's production right now. Outside of that, I think it comes down to magazine interchangeability. I'd love to see it myself! G19 size with a 9rd mag would suit me perfectly But then again, seeing what some manufactuers can do with hi-cap mags these days, makes me wonder if Glock can do "single stack width" with a double-stack mag w/o losing capacity. Think what you will about Ruger, but they have the SR9 out now. That thing is single-stack thin. If not thinner than many single-stacks. It is a double-stack with a 17rd mag. But it's not a Glock and the trigger sucks worse. If Glock could shave down to that size and retain mag capacity, they would be golden! I pack a single-stack 9 every day (Hk P7) but would jump at a chance for a Glock that is no thicker than this. |

With backorders still in the six digits, and the G26 "flying off the shelf", they've got all the business they can handle right now. Hell, they had to import Austrian slides to fill the gap. If anything, I could see them opening up another line for a currently available pistol. |

Makes too much sense. Especially for the civilian market that Glock has shown time and again they do not really seem to care about. IMHO they want the LEO market and we get the left overs.
Glock could "out Khar"Khar is a second if they chose to. They could do it cheaper and the guns would work 100% right out of the box. Add a pocket SS .380 to the wish list with the carbine and SS .9mm too. We can all start holding our collective breath.
Edit: SS = single stack...not stainless steel. |

I fondled it at the gun store, it really is more of a glock copy than even the swock was....
like the g36 i felt the trigger was too light. but what killed it for me was the mag release. I couldn't get it with EITHER finger. which is weird cause I can hit the '99 release. |

A single stack 9mm the size of a Kahr PM9 down to the size of a Rohrbaugh made by Glock would capture a huge portion of the pocket/small CCW gun market. Glockers usually love Glocks above all else, but have to step away from the brand to get a true pocket gun. The G26 is not pocketable for many people, including myself. In business attire I can't really even pocket my Kahr PM9 so I revert to IWB.
If Glock made a true pocket gun in either 380 or 9mm they would not be able to keep up with demand. Lots of people who can't get comfortable with a larger gun will revert to a small gun for their CCW needs. Glock would also capture the LE market with any pocket gun they make. Cops need BUGs don't they? I carry my Kahr PM9 on my vest while on duty and have carried it almost exclusively while off duty. I have now begun to favor my new Glock 19 and realized when carrying IWB there is little practical difference in concealability between a G19 and a PM9 (both in Comp-Tac infidel's). Bottom line for me is if Glock makes a pocket 9mm I will be buying it. If they make a 9mm or 45 Glock carbine I'll be getting it. I truely love the Glock brand. |
|
another idea about a pocket Glock in a tiny caliber is that with the rise of CCW permits, many folks want to carry a heavier gun in a smaller caliber due to recoil sensitivities. My wife would probably go with a 380 in a G26 sized package, but can't hang on to the LCP or Kel-Tec.
Just because they can be made smaller doesn't mean that';s the best option for everybody |

a single stack Glock 9 is now called the Walther PPS. . Hardly. That post by DanTSX is spot in, very well-said. Glock is primarily making, for lack of a better term, "military style" pistols. They're not gonna retool to make something that would only appeal to the civilian market, in a very few countries. The bulk of what they're doing, by and large, is .mil/LEO contract. They're fine with their profit margin, at this time. |

a single stack Glock 9 is now called the Walther PPS. and I carry one. Very close. The internals look an awful lot like a Glock. The trigger (after about 500 rounds or so) feels very much like a Glock. It's also been very reliable for me, and it's surprisingly accurate for such a little gun. And of course, it carries great. |

A side note, I heard Glock was opening a factory in the US, so the importing of pistol rules would no longer apply. We may even get the .380, and have the original trigger design on all their pistols. |

Yeah, I agree with some here that a single stack 9mm would be a huge success. I tried to go the Khar way, twice, because of it's size but the pistol was not 100% reliable, even after the "250 rounds that the recommend for the break in, because they are made to such tight tolerances" nonsense. Their pistols feel great and hide well but if you go check out the Khar forum, just look a the topics and you will know what I mean.
Glock needs to build the factory here so they don't have to put up with all the importing rules. Hell, we could use the jobs. |
