I was at Kittery Trading Post the other day and saw some judges and governors on the rack.  They don't intererest me and I have no intention of acquiring one.

I we the cylinder is quite long.  Is it long enough to chamber .45-70?

Note: I am not advocating actually firing a .45-70.  I think that would be a very, very bad idea.  I'm just overcome by morbid curiosity as to whether it fits or not.

There used to be a Thunder Five (precursor to the Judge) chambered in .45-70.

45/70 is .458 and .45 colt is .452. What could go wrong?

Ah.  I didn't know the diameter difference, and I don't have any .45LC to compare to my .45-70.  I do have some .410 snap caps, though, and they chamber fine in my 1885.

Semi-related: Magnum Research makes the BFR in .45-70, and they also make it in .45/.410. They're probably the same cylinder length, as are the .500s, .30-30s, etc.
