I noticed the Taurus G3 and maybe one of its variants gets good reviews. Taurus does not have the best rep for quality, however. If a person bought one, what is the chance it will have to go back to the company for warranty servicing within 2K rounds and/or within a few years? If a person bought 10 of them for prepping purposes, how many will have to go back for servicing within 2K rounds and/or within a few years? |

| Yeah they get a bad rap but a lot of it is internet commandos typing away with no actual experience with the gun or Taurus. I’m not saying that every gun is flawless, but they all aren’t junk. I have guns from most manufacturers including Taurus, other than I’ve never had any issues other than maybe a recall and none with Taurus. I bought a couple of their 1911’s for range work because they were under $400. My son has had a 745 for years that runs fine and he’s not easy on anything. Are they the same as my $1500 or $2k priced guns, no but the ones I’ve experienced have been fine. The G3’s have a decent reputation from what I have heard. |

I keep an eye out for Taurus horror threads. Their polymer guns don't seem to get a lot of complaints. The main products I see getting complaints are levers and revolvers currently. I don't see many complaints about their various 92/99s either but I'm not sure they are selling enough to register. Inherently it is not the designs that I suspect, it is the QC and warranty service. If Taurus/Heritage/Rossi had top notch warranty service I'd say go for it every time but their warranty service sucks. And their QC can suck too. The question is why bother with the Taurus when their are other guns in the same price range....Ruger SR and Max lines for starters. |
| I own a gx4 and a g3 full-size. The gx4 I went straight from academy to range and fired 200 blazer brass 115gr. No issues. Magazine followers were stiff, but they were brand new mecgars. Great feel in hand. Came with 2 back straps. G3 I haven't had to the range yet. Also feels good in the hand and no issue yet with snap caps. When I go to town I carry the gx4 with 13rd magazines. There's some aftermarket parts for taurus, Lakeland LLC. Liked them so much , I'm looking for the new rpc. There's also a rebate going on right now. $25 for semi autos and $30 for wheel guns. |

pro tip: edit your thread title to include what you're seeking opinions about. This helps those searching for and / or seeing the make and model type, which should yield you better traffic. |

The Taurus G2 / G3 lines are pretty darn reliable. I'm not aware of any common issues or frequent failure points. I have one of the early G2c pistols and have several hundred rounds through it without issue. The only complaint I see sometimes is the trigger -- it's striker fired and doesn't break until it's pulled all the way back, almost touching the frame. It's not my favorite, but it works fine. |

I have a G2 it has worked great also have 605 357 mag snubbie no complaints. The G2 is very Glock looking inside. I also have a TX22 that has been great. That said I saw a 24/7 launch the slide off the front of the gun at the range. |

I have not read good things about their 1911s years ago. Maybe they improved in recent times. |

I vaguely remember they will pay shipping for warranty work in the first year of ownership. One fellow had to pay $92 in shipping to use his warranty. I do not recall which model. Good point about Ruger. |

This "Taurus bad" stuff is so worn out. PT140 Millennium Pro - never had issue. G3C (x2) - never had issues. GX4 - ejector came loose. CS had it fixed and back to me in 3 weeks. GX4 Carry - my favorite EDC despite owning many other Gucci brand names. Never had an issue. |

Did you have to pay shipping for the GX4 issue? If so, how long did you own it before sending it back? |

For the GX4, the ejector came apart during my first range trip with it. Taurus paid shipping both ways and had it fixed and back to me in 3 weeks. |
| I kind of wonder if the OP buys any of the firearms he’s ever asking about? He tends to ask about a lot of firearms. I would imagine if you can buy 10x of these you’d probably buy something else. I never heard of even the most seasoned shooting going through 10x handguns. You’d need to be shooting close to maybe a million to 2 millions rounds. At current prices that would mean you’d spent about half a million to a million or more in just 9mm prices. At that point you’d think replacing a handgun would be a very trivial thing considering how much you spent on ammo. |

I think the one rental range that used to track rounds through handguns had 300k or 400k rounds through a Glock with small parts breakages. My hunch is that with most quality/ duty grade handguns, someone could put a 1000 rounds a year through one for between 25 and 50 years and only have to replace the common wear components (recoil springs, etc.). The OP said they are for “prepping”. No one knows exactly what that means because everyone thinks about that differently. I personally think that even the lower percentile in terms of number of firearms owned of Arfcom members (likely including me) already have more than enough handguns to be prepared for just about any version of that (if you have more than maybe 3 handguns I wonder how you’d need more for the “end of days”). It’s also likely most members here have no shortage of long guns. That being said, it’s the OPs hobby and if he wants to buy 10 cheap pistols, that’s his right to do so. |

I was thinking if I, or one of us on here, helped arm others in a SHTF event. For me it is relatives I have in mind to help. They are not much into shooting. For me it is pleasurable to learn about and purchase this stuff. I am iching for CZ 70 in 7.65/.32 auto for my enjoyment. |

IIRC, they do get ya with the costs of magazines. I know you can get a used M&P for the price of the G3 but I recall they have issues with accuracy in 9mm. My memory is telling me a used Glock is more than a G3 but maybe my memory is not what they are currently going for. |

Right now buying or replacing a handgun is a trivial thing. We don't know if it will be that way in the future. |

My memory is telling me a used Glock is more than a G3 but maybe my memory is not what they are currently going for. I have a Canik SFX Rival and it is an excellent pistol. I've shot several TP9s and METEs and the like. All have been great. Haven't had any reliability issues but I can't speak to longevity as all my hard use guns have been Glocks, HKs, or M&Ps. They DO get you with mags, though. The Canik mags usually cost around the $30 mark new. The M&P 2.0 pistols have been GTG. I haven't experienced any accuracy issues over my M&P 2.0 Full-Size 9mm, Compact 9mm, Carry Comp slide/barrel kit, Shield 9mm, or Full-Size .45. Yes, a used Glock might cost a tad more than a new Taurus equivalent, but it will make up for it in proven track record, aftermarket support, mags, holsters, accessories, etc. |

The Gen 3 Glock 19 clones are probably where you should look if prepping, OP. Turkey, Philippines, PSA, other US copies. Rugers are slightly more expensive at wholesale than the G3C, but their mags only fit the Ruger PCC - and are expensive. I carried a G3C I bought at Bud's in Tennessee on my way back home last year. No qualms. I sell quite a few of em, only Tauri I've sent in for service have been the recalled PT 111 Gen 1s. |

I have a G2c in 40s&w. I didn't think it would ever hold up, so I put 2k+ rounds through it in the first year. Not a single issue with it. I bought another G2c in 9mm and a full size G3. There are better guns, there are not better guns for $200. Hurry, I think they are ending the G2/G3 models. |

Only find G3Cs at a good price at a single distributor these days. I'll be disappointed when it's gone, it's a decent pistol w/ sights and mag compatibility @ a great price point. The GX series seem decent, but proprietary mags.
