I am looking for a good gunsmith for Smith and Wesson revolvers. I have a 27-2 that needs some work. The trigger is heavier than it should be. I don't have a scale to see exactly how much it weighs, but it is far heavier than my 686 or any of my other Smith revolvers. When I work the trigger in DA it locks up and works fine, but is heavy. But when I cock the hammer in single action, there is a couple cylinders where the hammer will stop about halfway back and must be forced back. I took the side plate off and did not find any excess dirt or grime. The gun is near pristine. If I take the cylinder off the gun and pull the release back and work the action, it is like glass. If anyone has any suggestions on what it could be I am open to that. I would like to find a smith to work on it in central Ohio. I am not opposed to sending it off to a larger shop like Dave Lauck, but I would prefer to just be able to drive and drop it off. Thanks in advance fellas

TK Customs

You could also send it in to S&W, I've had excellent customer service from them, even on discontinued guns.

Does Smith have a fairly decent turn around time?

I haven't heard of him. Of course I don't say that to discount his work. I don't see a website for him. Is there somewhere I can check out his work?

He doesn't have a website.  His phone number is 440-458-4369 unless it's changed in the last few years.

Google his name and gunsmith and you'll get hundreds of hits.  He's been featured in many, many magazine articles as well.

He's famous for his work on six guns.  He does some awesome custom builds!

S&W repair shop works on S&W revolvers, all day, every day. If any of their smiths get stumped, they can rely on coworkers for additional input. I wouldn't hesitate a minute to trust them to get it right.

I have a Smith Model 29.  A  older gun.
The trigger kept getting stiffer and harder to pull till the trigger. and hammer was getting stuck half way through.
I found the trigger right above where it makes contact with the hammer to have a big Burr.
Stoned that down and polished the rebound slide on some 400 grit sandpaper on a flat surface.
Trigger is great now.

@borderpatrol

A few years ago, I had to send an L-frame in twice.

after the first time, I called back

the female manager said "I'll have one of my good techs look at it this time"

I said - "Shouldn't ALL your techs be GOOD TECHS ?!?!?"

I lost all faith in new S&W revolvers.

I imagine all the good S&W revolver smiths have retired.

Yeah, about those discontinued guns...

I'm still cranky.

Get some snap caps and dry fire around 6,000 rounds as smooth as you can pull the trigger.
