What papers do you need to send your 1911 in to them for some work?

I think you can get the W/O form on line from them. IIRC that's what I did.

This might not be the "correct" way to do it but I've always called Deb/Amanda/Dave at the custom shop directly.  One of them will give you the option to purchase Fedex 2-day shipping through them at a discount rate, which is usually ~$60 round trip.  They will give you an RMA number and you'll have to write down on a piece of paper the work you want done, sign it and place it in the box with the gun.  This is the way I've done it at least 6-7 times.

Nothing right now, but I'm thinking about getting my Loaded Armory Koted and getting the 1911-A1 Defense package sometime in the future.

Same here. Except that you can just call customer service 1-800 number and ask for RMA and shipping label to custom shop if you know what you want to have it done without the need to talk to Dave/Debbie/Amanda. While on the phone with customer service rep, a email with FedEX label will be emailed to you. Follow the instruction on the email. Print label, pack your stuff and drop it off at FedEX service center. That's it.

If  your instruction for work is not clear, most likely you will get a call from Dave Williams, Director of SA Custom Shop when they inspect your pistol/parts/instruction sent. That's my experiences for 3 pistols with SACS.

It varies depending on type of works you wanted and how busy they are at the moment. Normally checkering take longer time due to limited machining capacity, as well as some refinish work that is not done in house. You really have to call SA to find out directly.

For my Mil spec work, I just sent an email of what I wanted and the parts I wanted and sent a pic of the custom grip safety I wanted.

Is the Series 70 pistol action job with existing parts worth it for $100?
2/11/2014 11:11:07 AM EDT
[#14]
If the hammer and sear are min, I would send a EGW hard sear and EGW (or your fav barstock) hammer to SA and have them do a trigger job.
I would not pay any smith to do a action job on a min sear or hammer.

Cylinder and Slide and Harrison ignition sets are pretty fukkin' nice too.  I have one of each, take a pick...

Springfield's tool steel ignition sets they use in the Custom Shop guns are top quality and capable of some incredible triggers too.  I'm personally not a huge fan of the cosmetic aspect of the hammer, but it looks ok on a Springfield.  I have two of 'em.

Could I just ask for the Springfield tool steel sear and hammer? Here is a list of the work I may have done.

SACS Loaded Work
Re-Parkerize complete pistol
Fit match bushing
Add recessed lanyard loop to existing MSH
Fit extended single side thumb safety
Springfield Tool steel hammer and sear
#4.5 trigger pull

I am not doing this right at the moment. I am buying a TRP next and will probably send in my Loaded after that.

Yeah, they would do all of that.  If you had them install their barrel you'd have a better gun than a TRP with the hard fit barrel and tool steel ignition.
If I paid for the tool steel parts, I'd get a new trigger fit and set it at 3.5-4lbs.  Springfield does a helluva trigger job...

Also, take a look at the Guncrafter lanyard loop MSH.  Very nice and right at $60.

Should I get a new extractor fit? Mine clocks a little bit but I have had no issues thus far (only about 300 rounds).

it never hurts to have a properly tuned spare and while its there Im sure its just a matter of 30 bucks or so.  why not?

Its 65 to fit and tune new extractor and 30 to tune current extractor, would you get the new one?

Also how much is shipping?

I'd get the new one and keep the old one as a spare. I'd also request that they blend the extractor to the rear of the slide (flush), because I think it looks a lot better that way. Shipping will still be pricey, but UPS changed their policies last year so you don't have to ship overnight anymore. Most of the time, 2nd day air is about $40-$45 each way insured (depending on the value), but that's about half of what it used to be.

this is what I would do as well. a good reliable drop in back up is priceless when you really need it.

Call Springfield customer service 1-800 number, request a RMA to ship pistol to custom shop. Before you hang up, they will email the shipping label with shipping instruction. They use FEDEX. $30 round trip 2 day shipping or $60 round trip overnight. Cannot beat the price. They don't charge you until your gun is done and ready to ship back to you.

I handled a Colt and really liked the undercut front strap. I don't think I want a trigger job (trigger is pretty good already) or a lanyard loop (besides the cool factor I would have no purpose for it. Will a match bushing make a big deal in accuracy? It shoots a ragged hole at 7-10 yds. Would the money be better spent on a new tuned extractor? Would it be dumb to just send it in for re-parking, undercut front strap Colt style, and match bushing/new tuned extractor? Thanks

ETA:  What kind of box do you ship it in and what kind of packaging will keep the pistol safe from scratches? Do I need to ship through an FFL?

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I have one question. Can SACS re weld the grip safety tangs and re fit the beavertail? The tangs are over cut and the beavertail is kind of loose on my pistol. Thanks.
