I have a SA Champion with WW serial (GI model, aluminum frame)
-Purchased used
-Came with upgraded grip safety/hammer.
-I've put about 800 rds through it, with one failure to feed-factory federal FMJ setback at the bottom of the feed ramp.
-Its my EDC

The problem is the extractor. I don't believe it's in spec, as it has a very erratic ejection pattern. Most rounds hit me in the forehead or sit on top of my head in my hair.

I've read Bill Wilson's extractor tuning tips, but I'm not sure how to proceed.

After taking everything apart, I found that the extractor channel was extremely grimey, with a ton of buildup in the channel and on the extractor. Is this normal?
Firing pin looks great, spring is in great shape and only had a little fouling.

Everything was wiped down and put back together after initial inspection.

So, where do I go from here?
Any pointers or resources would be helpful in properly tuning the extractor so I get a more typical ejection pattern.

The round wiggles around a bunch and falls out if the slide is tipped upside down.

Note the posiiton of the round behind the extractor.

Case pattern-discoloration is always uneven-I don't think this is a problem, but if this is not good, I'd like to know lol

It's normal for it to get gunked up. Clean the extractor and the channel. Q tips and Gunscrubber or Brakleen. Then reassemble.
Next take the slide off the gun and slip a loaded round under the extractor. Line up the base of the rim with the "Circle" in the breech face.
Hold the slide level. The nose of the round should should droop at 30 degrees nose down and the extractor should still hold the round if you give it a light shake.
If it doesn't hold the round give it a very silght bend in. You want it to bend in from the tip to the flair out half way down. Very little.
After you fire it and get home repeat this test to see if it's still holding tension. It may be getting tired.
If it doesn't hold tension, replace with a Wilson Combat Bullet proof Extractor.

Use a loaded round as you need the weight of the loaded round. Don't worry it's safe because the slide is off. And I prefer it on the looser than tighter side.

After looking at the pics again, Most of your problem is just dirt. clean it good especially the inside of the hook and then try the test.

Will do, thanks for the pointers. I've cleaned it up and tightened it so it passes the shake test. I'm going to test it out before work tomorrow and see where it's at.
