| want a .45acp, will be my first. have an XD 9mm, good gun, but its very thick and heavy. have a Sig Mosquito for fun and it is tons of that. Have a Sig P238, which goes with me everywhere. Now i want a "real" caliber. I was thinking, "everyone has to have at least one 1911" right? but the more I research, the more I think about the big picture, the more I think I should be buying an ultra reliable SHTF, kick butt and take names gun! I am thinking a Sig P220 Carry. Does it get any more reliable? thoughts and suggestions please. |
| You cant go wrong with the 220, and if it will be your only 45 I say its the better way to go. The 220 is gonna be more reliable and better suited for a defense gun. I'm not saying a 1911 cant do that job but I don't like manual safeties on carry or HD guns. My 1911 is a good reliable gun but I don't trust myself to work a safety if whit ever hits the fan |

I would strongly suggest the full size P220, with the 4.4 inch barrel, or even a P220 Match with a 5 inch barrel. I have a P220 Stainless Elite, and I shoot it MUCH better than smaller handguns/carry guns. It's big and heavy, no fun to carry, but it's an absolute tack driver. The size and weight of it makes it a big, smooth, comfortable gun to shoot--kinda like the difference between Cadillac and a Mustang. I had some ejection problems with mine until I got about 2,000 rounds through it. I started lubing it properly (everybody says run em wet), quit cleaning it every 100 rounds, and I haven't had a round fail to eject since (about 3,000 rounds now). The gun is very "tight". Big heavy spring, no wiggle whatsoever in the frame/slide, the trigger, nothing. It's impressive machining, very close fit and tolerances. My friend has a black 220, and I like that one alot, too. He hasn't stovepiped a round yet with his.
Only problem with the P220 is 8 round magazines--or 10. But that's alright, I can change a mag real quick. Other problem is the mags are WAY overpriced. And the wooden grips are hard to get clean....220R-45-SSE. If you want to be REALLY cool, find an old West German P220. That would make you elite. |
