The M&P line really shouldn't be out of your price range. Yes the MSRP on Smith's website is high but the actual prices from dealers are in that range. I want to say $479-$529 is what I saw them at the last gun show I went to. Mostly on the lower end of that.

I have the full-size and compcat M&P40 and absolutely love those two guns. Try them and find better pricing, check out budsgunshop.com, that's where I got mine from great guys over there.

I had a Bersa Thunder 10 years ago.  Broke the hammer completely off.  Pot metal.

If Glocks are out, what about the Springfield XDs.

Looks like you've got your eye on a lot of different ones. I would try to fihd a range that has some of them that you can shoot. That will probably narrow the field.

If you are looking at Sigs, try to find an older one.   The P250 is a serious dog from what I understand.

I am in the camp Glock makes the best subcompact for function reliability and price- no doubt. Having carried and used just about every brand or type pistol out there I have now limited myself-happily- to glock 1911 and smith revolver

I'd skip the XD and Charter Arms.  The new 380 bodyguard I'd skip too until we know how robust of a design it's going to be.

I'd skip the Sig P250.  It's pure shit and does not live up to Sig's reputation.

The 2075 RAMI is a fine pistol.

I admit to being a 1911 fanboy.  Love the gun, but the M&P45c is better, IMO, as a carry piece due to weight vs concealability concerns.

If I were going to open carry, I'd roll with a 1911 Government model.  The only 1911 I have right now is a range / project gun, not up to use a CCW anyway.  Next year I'm either going to buy an Ed Brown Special Forces or I am going to build my own.  Either of these I'd carry.

Love my Colt Defender, and came from a Kel-tec P11.

The Defender is actually slimmer than the P-11.

And yes, the Defender is 100% reliable. It is the only 3" 1911 I would carry.

I love my XD45 compact.  Carry it everywhere it is legal and it shoots great.  Have put over 1500 rounds down range with zero problems.  I have no problem concealing it and I'm average build: 6', 195 lbs.

Go to a range that rents guns man   That should help you narrow it down some.
