[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Problem with 1918 Colt

I have a WW1 1918 Colt and just added an orignal thumb safety.

If you pull the trigger with the safety engaged the hammer falls to half cock when the safety is disengaged. If you do not touch the trigger, tha safety works as designed. This did not happen with the Colt commercial safety that I replaced. What is not fitting, hammer or safety, or both? Any ideas? Thanks.

Most likely the original safety needs to be TIG welded up and recut so that it will work properly.

I would check the sear and the hammer hook engagement to be sure that they are OK as well.
