4" 686-4 Smith at the local dealer for $495. Looks like its in good shape for a used gun. Is that a bad deal for a pre-lock these days? I am looking for a good carry Smith.

I'd say it's about average for what I see 686s go for in my area. Is it mechanically sound as well as aesthetically? I used to have the link for a used revolver check-out but i just recently fried my HD so it's gone, I'm sure someone will post.

For 500 bucks and then the assorted extra fees, that thing better be NIB and come with a blowjob.

The 686 is agood revolver.  I have two of them.  Paid $380 for one and $300 for the other.  That was few years ago though.  $495 seems high to me.  Keep looking.  I use them for IDPA.  They are excellent revolvers.

I agree, that's a high price point by about $100. The L-frames were great guns but not rare by any measure. I also think they are probably the least desired of the pre-lock S&W revolvers. It seems most people these days want J's, K's and N-frames.

They are nice but that does seem $100 high.
