Which is better? what advantages does one have over the other? Or is it better to have both? and this is not for self defense either.

If not evaluating for carry and for range use only - the comp would probably do more recoil reducing than a ported barrel and slide would.

In IPSC, we use BOTH (the ports are called hybrid holes in IPSC/USPSA).

Please avoid BOTH in a defensive handgun. The ejecta from those parts can de-flesh bones (possibly yours).

OUCH! Thanks guys. well theres this lone wolf conversion barrel (40 to 9) that im looking at, and I can get either or both together. I was thinking about getting both because its a little longer and I figured alittle less recoil. on the comp. part the vent holes are on top.
