I just bought a new Glock 35. I noticed the magazines had a rectangle of metal exposed on the front. None of my older magazines have this. What purpose does it serve?

It's for the ambi mag release. IIRC, Glock isn't selling those frames in the US. (For the standard sizes, anyway.)

This. Probably half of my mags now have that cutout. It's meaningless, really. Doesn't affect function in any way.

It is for the new mag release. For both left and right handed shooters.
