So I'm working on my project Springfield, and I'm at a point where the slide overhang on the rear needs to be addressed.

I'm thinking about installing a new barrel down the road, should I wait with trimming the slide to match the frame until I get a new barrel installed? Will a new barrel/link change the overhang much?

Here's what I'm looking at:

Can you post pictures of this with the pistol fully assembled.  What is the hang over when it is put together.  My SA has some hang over but not that much.

Have you considered doing a checker pattern on the back of the slide?

I would wait until I had the new barrel.  You are not that far from where you need to be.  I have had builds that far off with one barrel before.

Barrel, bushing and recoil spring are installed in the picture. That is the actual overhang you're looking at.

I have not really considered checkering. I guess I need to look into that, as I wouldn't mind doing a 20 lpi on the front strap either.

I'd wait to do cosmetics till after all mechanical changes have been made and proofed. But then that's just me.

I asked the same thing to Bob Miller and he said to get the barrel fitted before you alter the back of the slide as how the barrel finally locks up will determine where the slide is going to sit.

Well, that confirms my suspicions. Thanks, all!
