Is a Kimber Ultra II and a Kimber Ultra Raptor II basically the same gun mechanically except for the grips and the metal checkering? I've found a couple locally and the price difference is about $275. Just wanted to make sure the extra money was not for cosmetics.
Thanks. |
| yes and no. The things that you mentioned are different and are relatively expensive to change if you send it to a smith. The big differences other than those already mentioned will be night sights and an ambi-safety. I am guessing that the raptor has less MIM but I don't know that to be fact. If you are going to compare a model of the ultra carry to the Raptor then you need to compare the price of the TLE because it has night sights and front strap checkering. Once you do that the MSRP difference is $146. Then it is up to you if you want an ambi-safety and whether or not you like the look of one over the other for less than a $200 difference. If you really want to get crazy throw the ultra super carry into play. It has everything the ultra raptor has EXCEPT a Swartz safety plus it has a bobbed MSH and a carry melt. I would strongly recommend the ultra TLE or better. FWIW I have a custom II and I had to put night sights on it so that I could do something besides shoot in the daylight. If you are buying an ultra sized pistol then you must be planning to carry it and it will be less than desireable to shoot at night or in low light with standard ultra carry sights. Hopefully that helps. |
