I'm looking to buy a 1911.  I'm thinking about getting a Kimber TLE/RL, or maybe the Kimber Warrior.  But the few hundred extra for the Warrior could get me a nice used Wilson or Brown.  I'm going to use it for home defense thus the light rail, concealed carry, and occasional open carry.  Essentially, an all purpose defensive pistol.  Thoughts?

That's a tough one.  If you've shot one and know it works well for you, go for the most you can get.  It is worth it.  I'd be leary to drop alot on a pistol unless I knew it works for me.  But personally, you can't go wrong with any of those.  My 2 cents.

If you can afford a semi-custom, that will hands down be your best bet.

On the other hand, if he buys a semi-custom and decides he doesn't like it, his monetary loss will probably be higher when he sells it than the cost of a bare bones model like a Mil-Spec...

A semi custom is twice the gun.

Not always the case. If both retain 80% resale you lose more on a semi, but many semis have a warranty that follows the pistol, not the owner. In addition, There can be waits, different runs and configurations that help bolster the resale of a semi. In the long run you are going to lose more by percentage with the production pistol, and your satisfaction likelihood is exponentially higher with a semi custom.

I am still partial to my low end Springfields...have yet to have a single bobble with any of my three. I do like my wifes STI Trojan, that thing is really really nice for the money.

I have shot my future Father-in-law's Kimber 1911.  It was excellent and I do like the design.  I have heard good things in general about Kimbers, but I have also heard that their "KimPro" finish is not as durable as others.
