So we bought my wife a S&W 642 Airweight with Crimson trace laser grip...she absolutely loves this thing and I like it also.

My question is this;

Is there a way (I understand I would need to use a smith) to change the trigger pull on this, it is a bit long and heavy...is it even possible?

Thanks

You can get someone to smooth the trigger pull some for you but if this is a defensive handgun...which I assume it is...don't let them cut springs or use a really light aftermarket mainspring in it. That stuff is fine for a range gun, but for a J frame intended for serious use, you want plenty of spring drive in case dirt. lint, etc. are present or if you have a hard primer. That tiny hammer (your gun has an internal hammer) is small enough without weakening the springs deliberately.

+1 on not monkeying with the springs.

J frames don't lend themselves to trigger jobs as well as their larger siblings.  You may want to try taking all the internals out, thoroughly clean them, lube with something like moly slide then reassemble.  I've done this on K frames with excellent results.

Also, dry fire alot.  Get a set of snap caps if you're worried about damage (I wouldn't be).

Just opened up my new 642, hosed the insides with teflon spray while slowly & carefully working the action, closed it up - it's now smooth as a baby's bottom.  I don't know why I like the darned thing, but I do.

642s are, IMO kinda like 1911s in that every true gun nut needs to have one laying around.

They're awesome little revolvers that fit their intended purpose exceptionally well.
