I was thinking about upgrading the magazine springs in my XD with some Wolff extra power springs, but I'm unsure of which power level to go to.  This is my home defense gun, so I would like to use the best possible gear in it.

So here's the question, what is the trade off when you increase magazine spring tension?  Wolff is offering 2 different levels of "extra power", and I was wondering why.  I want this gun to positively feed and always lock back the slide, so do I want the highest power?  There has got to be some trade-off in performance if Wolff is offering 2 different levels of tension, but what is it?

Thanks for the help, gang!

Are you having any problems with your current mags? If not, *I* would leave the springs alone.

Generally speaking, x-power springs are a replacement for much older mag springs that have long worn out and/or guns that have a very fast slide speed, i.e. hi-powered calibers (+P or 10mm).

While I have never heard of an x-power mag spring causing problems with a "normal" semi, there would be a point of diminishing returns with the 2x-power springs, IMO. These springs are also a bear to reload w/o a reloading tool as well for the last 3-4 rds.

Many times with a gun, the old adage of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is darn good advice, IMO.

The only issues that I've ever had is a couple of cases of failure to lock back after the last round.  I'm not sure how critical that is, but if some new springs would help, I'd spend the money.  Thoughts?

Does it do this on all the mags or specific ones? How long have you had these mags?

I would go no more than one step above OEM spring strength, IMO. As I mentioned, the stronger the mag, the harder it is to get the last 2-3rds in it!
