I'm having problems with 2 chip mccormick 8rd magazines in my kimber.

It wont lock slide back after last round. It also doesn't drop empty magazine smoothly. I have to pull out empty magazine.

Is this a mag problem or pistol? I believe it to be the latter.

If it is a pistol problem what is my next course of action.

Thanks

Shaun

The assumption is that the slide locks back with other mags and those mags also drop free. If that is true, then it would be safe to say that your gun does not like Chip's mags. Use what the gun likes or learn to modify the mags and/or the gun to work together. The no-lockback is easy on most mags - you tweak the part of the follower that hits the slide stop until it pushes up the stop after the last round. Non-drop-free mags are either out of spec - too wide, or they are just a little wider than your other mags and are dragging on something in the mag well, like grip screws protruding through the grip screw bushing into the mag well.

Instead of pushing up on the slide stop, the follower on your mags is jumping up over the slide stop and getting hung up.  That's why the mags are hard to remove.  I agree that the best course of action would be to try some different mags.  Tripps or Wilson ETM's seem to work best in the widest variety of guns, at least for me.  Which Chips do you have?  My Power Mags work fine in my Baer, but when I used the Power Plus mags I had the same problem as you.

I guess I will have to pick up some new mags.

Thanks for  the help.

My old kimber custom II did not like chip mic mags!  Wilson mags ran perfect in it.
