Wishing to replace the ILS with an Ed Brown housing. With new innards installed, the hammer will not cock and I'm only getting about an 1/8 of an inch depression.

Do I have the proper parts ?

I thought that maybe the new housing wasn't drilled down completely but the depth is the same on the new and old (blue mark on screwdriver matches depth on both)

What am I doing wrong ?

Also, when I pulled the new housing out I forgot to band the grip safety and the sear spring fell out. Do I ned to pull out the thumb and grip safety do reinstall properly.?

I know, I'm a dumb ass.

Yeah, you'll want to remove the safeties to get the sear spring back in; you can wiggle it back in without doing so but I'd remove them, only takes a minute.

Chances are you have the wrong spring, the retainer and cap are correct.  How long is that mainspring?

Are you saying that the hammer will not move back to cock or is the hammer loose (no spring tension) and will not cock?
Is the gun an Officer or Govt.?

If it is loose and only gets tension at the last end of cocking, make sure the msh assembly pin is removed to allow full travel of the ms plunder assembly.

Dude, I could kiss you.

I went to measure it and realized I had inadvertently used to wrong spring.

Problem solved.

Thanks much.

Glad you got it fixed up.  I did the exact same thing the first time I changed out a MSH.

How did you manage to have on hand a mainspring that happened to be too long, and why was it in the area of the mainspring replacement? What was the too-long spring originally for?

When I ordered the "Rebuild Kit" I hit the Qty button for the 5 pack "Competition Mainspring" by mistake.

After receiving it, I ordered 2 of the proper "Kits".  Having opened both bags to measure the spring lengths ( Comp springs shorter than spring supplied in kit) I grabbed the wrong one.

When jhr1986 responded about spring lengths, the light bulb went off in my head that I might have used the wrong spring. And I did indeed.

I now have a 5 pak of worthless, to me, springs.
