Background: I shoot a Glock 17 and a 19 in a Recover 20/20N chassis. Shooting is suppressed, sighting is with dot sight or green laser. This combination is very easy to shoot well, but gas to the eye is a problem. It takes motorcycle goggles to limit the eye burn, but even that doesn't eliminate it. Tried an AA 22lr conversion on the G17, but not suppressed. Wore the goggles and shot only 10 shots, but no problem. Don't know how the 22 conversion would do if suppressed. It's a lot of fun to shoot with the chassis. So, would a MK IV have less eye burn if used in a chassis? Chassis costs about $300 delivered for the MK IV, so first I tried shooting with a MK IV held at about the same distance from the face as if the gun was in a chassis. An old rifle dot sight was used and so was a DA Mask suppressor, ammo was Rem GB HP. Result, some eye burn, too much, rats. After this test I tried normal pistol hold comparison shooting between using the factory sights and using the red dot. Red dot won by a really big margin. Sighting using a green laser and using a red dot gave equally good results. Other result is that my iron sight skills are fading and I need to get back to using irons. Well, that shoots the 22lr chassis idea in the ass. Perhaps a M4-22 Bugout will scratch that itch. A M4-22 rifle doesn't have much blowback, so the Bugout shouldn't have any more than the rifle. Love the MK IVs, love the Mark series, really love the McFadden magazine loader for the Ruger mags. |
