So I'm out at the range with my brother-in-law yesterday. He's never fired a gun before and is interested so I take him out to let him get a feel for pistols. While shooting my H&K Expert a round doesnt eject. Thinking its a bad reload (I roll my own 45 ammo), I open the slide and shake the case loose. Looking at it, it turns out to be a .40! Ruptured of course. No visible damage to the gun (I think it would take more than that to damage a H&K) so we finish off 200 more rounds then pack up and go home. On the drive home, I cant think of how I let that one slip through as I'm always meticulous. Brass is checked before and after cleaning. Checked again prior to going into the reloader. Then each round is checked once again before it goes into the ammo box. Then it hits me that he had helped me clean the brass, put it in the reloader and place the finished rounds into the ammo boxes! He also loaded a few while I took a bio break... ![]() So my lesson learned is never trust anyone but yourself when reloading. I'm thankful that he helped and we saved some time cranking out a few hundred rounds but the possibility of injury to self and property wasnt worth it. |

Shit happens like that sometimes. Luckily it isn't usually fatal, just embarassing. Glad to hear nothing was damaged. I did hear a story once where someone put a 9mm luger round into a 7.62x25 pistol once. It fit, it fired and luckily no one was hurt but just imagine that pressure spike... wow. |
